FOF #506 - Blowing Eggs - 04.05.07

Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the trail, Easter is on it's way.
When speaking about this Christian celebration of spring with eggs and bunnies one can get into a hilarious sexual double-entendre, if you know what I mean. Blowing eggs, putting them in the hay, that sort of thing.
Don't get me wrong, although I don't believe in Christianity, I just LOVE Easter! And who doesn't love springtime holidays?
One of my happiest memories when I was a kid growing up in Puerto Rico was blowing the egg yolks out of the eggs during Easter to rinse them out and color them with bright colors, crayons and stickers.
Every now and then we would fill some of them with confetti and smash them over each others heads, making a huge mess.
On today's Easter-cast, Marc and I share out stories, tips and tricks on dying and blowing eggs for Easter or anytime of the year.
The warm weather coming around the corner means all the crazies are getting out of hibernation and acting up again.
Remember ol' Rev. Phelps? This guy and his Christian ministry have spent the last couple of years protesting outside of military men and women's funerals because the U.S. government is TOO tolerant of gays and lesbians, despite the fact that we can't get married in this country.
Now spring fever has hit this ugly man's mind and he's detected a new threat to our morality- the Swedish. A spokesman for the Swedish royal family has confirmed that Fred has been harassing them with hate-filled faxes.
"You're doomed to spend eternity in hell," you know, that sort of thing.
Listen as we talk about Madonna's new H&M clothing line and the eerie defacement of her billboards, April Fools backlash, and a secret little easter egg at the end of the show.

I enjoyed your quick discussion of religions. It reminded me of the begining of Lent last year.
I do not live or work with the man that i am dating, but I do make lunch and send it to him every day.(Sorry its the Domestic Duiva in me.) He is Catholic and obseves all their religios traditions, ones that I have never been involved with.
Last year on the first Friday of Lent I sent him a Chefs Salad, all lovingly created chopped and artisticly arranged. He called me up and gave me a small amount of greif because I was sending him to Hell because of the meat on Friday thing. I apologised and explained that since I am not of the same religion he will need to tell me about such things in advance.
But now for my real question....
If he is such a follower of the Catholic faith, wont he be going to hell just for being my boyfriend??

Poor Mark, it doesn't sound like the egg blowing went well.

Fausto's joy at blowing and dying eggs brings back so many fond memories of sitting around the kitchen table with him and his siblings to blow out the inside and then dye them. I still have one that his dad painted with the face of a Chinese with a long pigtail drawn on the face... this tradition is from Mexico, and Mexicans call these blown-out, dyed eggs 'cascarones'. My Gringo mom had us dye our own eggs, and it was so much fun, that I passed it on to my kids... One time Beatriz sucked in the raw egg when I wasn't supervising, and she's never forgotten that!

Another fun trick (although not an Easter one) with an egg:
Submerge the egg in a bowl of white vinegar for about two days. The shell becomes see through and looks like a rubber ball. Just don't eat it, you'll get sick.
Fun show! I haven't painted eggs since I was a kid! Brought back good memories!
P.S.- The new website is really cool! I "registered" and I'm already gettin "fan" mail :) Thx guys!
Keep it kinky!

It's nice to know that someone is still interested in what an old dyke has to say. Thanks.

I know it has been a few days since it was talked about here, but I thought it might interest you guys that the reverse PIN rumor has reached Punsutawney PA. I was in a student's home yesterday, and while I was working with her on the floor the mom was on the computer and read an email she had recieved with the PIN rumor. Guess that is a popular myth right now.

Have you guys heard about the first openly gay-oriented talk show from China? It was reported on CNN:
http://edition.cnn.com/2007/world/asiapcf/04/03/china.gaytv.ap/index.html
I checked out the linked website and found the show, it had an interview wit the openly gay show host. It was hard to understand, though -- since I cannot read simplified Chinese. ;-)
Once again, great show, guys. Though I still don't really understand Fausto's enthusiasm for egg-flowing, but hey, whatever turns him on... :-)
Buzz, you should try the southeast Asian preserved egg -- same idea, it was marinated in vinegar and other ingredients. Most non-asians find it disgusting, since it stinks -- I think it was also used as a challenge in one of the reality tv show fear factor.

I saw a documentary on the Phelps family called The Most Hated Family In America, search it on youtube and you can find the whole thing. Fred Phelps is a very angry man and I for one feel sorry for him and his entire family. His family may share his ideas on who is going to heaven but they don't share the raw rage Fred has. One of his granddaughters broke down and cried saying that they were trying to help the outside world by warning them and they get attacked for it. I can't imagine how terrible it would be to be so ostracized from the outside world and to have been indoctrinated into believing the things they believe. I for one feel sorry that anyone has to live with the hate that Fred Phelps has for the world and to not see the beauty around us.

Ham for Easter is my new favorite song!! Thank you, Marc and Fausto!! Now I am driving everyone crazy singing it. I even sang it to my mom and she cracked up! xoxo HAM FOR EASTER, HAM FOR EASTER, HAM FOR EASTER.

Marc--I tried your (and Julia's) method for making hard boiled eggs and they came out fabulous!
And if you haven't heard, the gallery with the chocolate Jesus caved to pressure and will not be displaying the most delicious rendition of Christ to date. Boo.

Is it a bit sad that when I listened to it I must of been out of it because I didn't know what fausto was doing , and dint get why he was blowing eggs. i totally forgot easter was coming up. I never shop much and not religious so I almost missed it. I got to give my albino Bunny Edgar Winter a bat soon so the neighbor kids can play with him after they search for eggs. A I dress up in all b;ack , with celtic and tribal stuff on me, to pissoff their mom. Being a freak at times, really pays off. Loved the show, and had to listen to it a few times.

Fausto & Marc - You can always suck my egg baby ;)
Seriously the egg blowing bit was too funny. And it's so great that you let us see a slice of your relationship - it's brave to live on the net.
Oh and a wierd thing. We had a bunny last year living in our yard under the bushes. And today I saw it hopping around the yard - it's back. Just in time for easter.
Peace

Mark, thank you for sharing that boiled egg recipe. I tried it and it worked like a charm. I will no longer suffer with rubbery eggs. I heard Jacques Pepin comment once that he judges a restaurant by the quality of their boiled eggs.
Thank you! :)
