FOFA #325 - Proud to be Takei - 03.02.07

Proudly going where no other Star Trek actor had gone before George Takei got back into the national spotlight when "beamed" out of the closet as a openly gay man and spoke candidly about his 19-year relationship with his life partner Brad Altman.
On today's show we'll be talking with actor George Takei who's best known for playing the role of Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek television series and in six subsequent Star Trek films.
George Takei makes his podcast debut as he joins us to talk about the 40 year anniversary of Star Trek, his personal experience as a gay man in hollywood, why he came out, and why Howard Stern was able to trick George into thinking he was arguing with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Look for George in the tv show Heroes. It looks like he'll be playing a bad guy but we can't wait to see if he develops special powers. He was on the Jimmy Kimmel Show to poke fun of Tim Hardaway's anti-gay talk. Here's the fun on youtube.

This is one of my favorite episodes of FoF... but that YouTube video is absolutely fucking BRILLIANT. George Takei is just one of the coolest men alive. I heart him something fierce.
And to think it all started on FoF :)

Fausto & Marc - One of the best FoF episodes. So far. George is a beautiful man. I loved the YouTube video. That was f**ing hillarious. I hadn't seen that yet. We all should have a man like George in our lives that sticks up for us. Or be a man like that. A model to admire.

Terrific interview! To be honest, Sulu was never one of my favorite Star Trek characters, but George Takei is fantastic. I was impressed how open and full of life he is! Smart and sexy with a big heart...! I missed this FOF episode the first time around. Thanks for reposting it.

Hello Fausto & Marc, I must agree with all the other comments. It was a Great interview! One of the best FOF Episodes I have listened to and I have listened from the start. George Takei was so open and honest, it was a delight to get an insight into his career. He has a killer voice and sense of humour and he really got Fausto and Marc's sense of humour. This Episode is a Classic and one to be proud of. A million more episodes to follow! Well done!
