FOF #491 - Coming Out Against Cancer - 02.28.07

Podcast
Yes, lesbians do have balls.
Balls to fight cancer, that is.

Chicago is home to one of the coolest, best health care organizations anywhere, the Lesbian Community Cancer Project. Originally started as a way to educate doctors, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals about the specific needs of lesbians, taking away the stigma of not just lesbianism, but breast cancer, ovarian cancer and yeast infections.

As Lynda Carter said in the TV Pilot of Wonder Woman, "Any civilization that does not recognize the female is doomed to destruction, and sisterhood is more powerful than anything." You go girlfriend!

Join us as we take you on a magical chocolaty lesbian tour inside the South Shore Cultural Center for the Lesbian Community Cancer Project 16th Annual "Coming Out Against Cancer Ball." It's as much fun as it sounds.

Listen to todays special supersized show as we rendezvous with some lovely lesbians, gay and trans community folks and the winners of the ticket giveaway as we talk to openly gay Judge Tom Chiola, Police Officer José Rios, and what you can do when you find out you have cancer.

Click here for pictures of the fabulous event! Thanks to Cat Jefcoat for holding down the fort and being a fabulous lesbian leader.

The podcast that recognizes that sisterhood is the wave of the future- Feast of Fools.

This lesbians are so organized, I thought lesbians were lazy! A dessert buffé to help cure cancer, that's lovely.

Very, very funny episode, you should do more live & out on the streets episodes, they are amazing! Tamale and Jeffcoat are cheery and fun, love'em.

Breaking other people mailboxes is illegal, guys, but very funny indeed. The next time I get to organize a party or something, I will use that mail system, it looks sooo fun!

This are the times I wish I was a lesbian...

OMG! I'm sorry, I just heard the last part of this podcast, I didn't catch it the first time around.

I can hear that you are ready for whatever happens with your dad, that is good, not many people have the privilege to be ready for a parent's death.

I'm sure you're greatful for all the good moments you had with your father. And always remember you were son of a wonderful dictator look alike man that loves you, now and forever.

Fausto,
Glen and I send you white light and love to you, your family, and your father.
Love,
Cliff & Glen

Fausto,

I am sending white light and much love to all of your family. May love and wisdom guide everybody concerned during this time of transition. Peace is yours now.

While facing the prospect of losing a loved one is never easy, Juan Jaime is right that you are priveleged enough to have some preparation time. This does not necessarily make the loss any easier, but I still be lieve you will pull through it. In high school, my best friend's father was battling a second round of cancer, and he and his family were incredibly grateful that they had the time to prepare themselves before he passed.

You are an incredibly strong person Fausto and I believe that you will make it through this. I wish you and your family the very best, and I also send my deepest condolences. I know I speak for the entire Feast Of Fools audience when I say that we love you and grieve with you.

Great spisode, and a great cause too. Well done to the lovely ladies of LCCP.

Was wondering if the folks from Lola Project (Jonny T, JR Stranger and Emerald) were once part of the Windy City Blenders?
Once saw them when they came to Dublin to perform with the Shamcocks, Dublins very own Drag King Troupe.

Padrig: Indeed. Several of us did travel and perform in Dublin. What a blast...we miss Ireland!

Faustos: Sad to hear about the loss of your father. Rest in peace to him and warm thoughts and caring to you and your family.
