FOF #478 - Goodbye Anna Nicole - 02.09.07

You never see it coming. Death can come out of the blue and make everything else seem meaningless. Man, did we get blind-sighted!
Today's show began innocently, talking about the now insignificant "cheese-cam" that a Wisconsin dairy farmer put up in order to allow the general public share in the thrill of watching a block of cheddar cheese mature.
Coincidentally we had a silent moment for our friend Matt Lucero who's dog Ollie had passed away.
Then all of a sudden, without warning, Anna Nicole Smith died at the age of 39.
We got calls from Miss Ronnie and Sal-E telling us the bad news and what they thought her death meant. The instant messages came pouring in. The emails. Will the Playboy mansion gates get covered in roses? Will you remember what you were doing today ten years from now?
Anna Nicole's death made us immediately think of BC Kalz, the talented comedic actor who portrayed her in our live show "Feast of Fools: Fireballs Remixed" in 2004.
Click here to see BC Kalz in action as Anna Nicole in one of our live shows.
Interestingly enough, Anna Nicole compared herself to another tragic entertainment legend, Marilyn Monroe. We saw how messed up her life had been, how much heartache she had gone through, and how much fun it was to see her outlandish and awkward life unfold before us.
We knew she wasn't long for this world, yet at the same time her larger than life personality and enormous bosoms made her appear indestructible. So why am I a bit surprised that she's dead?
Listen to today's show as Marc and I talk to Miss Ronnie, Sal-E and BC Kalz about the tragic stripper turned Playboy model turned Jeans model turned bride turned realty-TV-star turned grieving mother turned cadaver known as Anna Nicole Smith.
The voices inside your head are perfectly normal, just be sure to adjust the volume when listening to the Feast of Fools.

I was diligently working today when my co-worker got a phone call from her mom... and then I heard "Anna Nicole is DEAD!?" And everything changed.
OK maybe it wasn't that dramatic, but it was huge news. Next thing you know the entire office was talking about it. You could hear people telling each other across cubicles and down hallways.
Anna Nicole may not have been an actress, or a singer, or anything really remotely worthy of being a celebrity-- but she was KNOWN... and I don't think she was a bad person at all. Talk about a tragic figure. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm kinda gonna miss her.

I know what you mean Mr. Man.
We're going to be saying "post 2-9" and the events surrounding "2-9-07."
I think the reason why everyone is talking is because she was a bigger symbol for the tragic female figure and the "goddess" architype. When someone like that dies, everyone is kind of shocked, because icons can't die. Even trashy trailer park icons.
Que viva Anna Nicole Smith!

Thanks to Miss Ronnie for voicing what I felt, I was at a bar with some friends when the news came on that Anna Nicole died, didn't hear one kind word from anyone!
My partner says she destroyed her own life, I can't imagine living every moment good and bad in the public eye.
I thought she was seduced by a lifestyle that got out of control and it ultimately killed her (well lets face it the husband did). Where ever she is I hope she finds peace.

As a former La Leche League Leader who helped countless mothers breastfeed their babies in a loving, supportive way, I totally agree with Carl Sagan & Fausto about the social rewards coming from giving babies and children lots of respectful touching and caressing. That's what I love about gay men - they give the BEST HUGS!
I would say that many more heterosexual men than women associate touching with having sex... so sad! When many heterosexual people hug, they hold back physically, in case the hug 'touches' too much!
That's why pets are so important, because people can express to their pets on a regular basis what they would never dare to do with their loved ones. We all need to touch and be touched in a loving way, and if we don't get that, we turn violent, because violence makes sure our bodies are stimulated.
Maybe that's what Anna Nicole Smith suffered from - the lack of many nice warm hugs telling her she was just fine and having nothing to do with overt sexual acts.
