FOF #462 - Get on Your Knees for Levi Kreis - 01.18.07

Levi Kreis fought back the tears when he sang this past summer at the closing ceremonies of the Gay Games VII at Wrigley Field. Opening for Cyndi Lauper, Levi felt he had come a long way in a bumpy ride of his life as an openly gay man in pop music.
Today Levi lives in Los Angeles with his hunky husband (who are legally domestic partners) and just finished his new album "The Gospel According to Levi." In his new album, Levi presents a broad range of musical styles, from barbershop boy bands to ragtime-infused gospel.
You might remember seeing Levi in the movie Frailty where he plays the younger version of Matthew McConaughey's character in Bill Paxton's directorial debut film about a man's confession to an FBI agent about how his religious fanatic father's visions lead to a series of murders.
When we first talked to Levi he was touring with another FOF favorite, singer/songwriter Eric Himan. He had recently come out as a gay man and this past year he's been working hard to re-establish himself as a musician. Things are looking good, and so is Levi.
Take a good look at Levi's album art. We rib Levi over his album art designed by illustrator Joe Phillips who is best known for his luscious cartoons portraying the romatic life of REALLY hot young men. He makes everyone look REALLY good.
Don't think for a moment that Levi has lost his good looks just because he's using a cartoon to represent his album art! As you can see in the picture here, Levi is in the best shape of his life.
So much in fact that he's scheduled to play the stripper who finds his spirit in Dell Shore's film adaptation of his hit play Southern Baptist Sissies.
Sorry gals, he promises no full frontal nudity. Dell, can you help a brother out? Get those panties off!
Listen as we talk in-depth with Levi about getting married and finding the man of his dreams. Disappointed? Don't be. You might still have a chance!
Do what DDBean did and stalk him in your Official Feast of Fools T-Shirt. He won't be able to resist you.
Levi also takes questions from the listeners like you through our AIM/Yahoo messenger, feastoffools4u. Believe it or not, he actually gives some surprising advice and shares some interesting anecdotes from his past.

Levi was to perform at Pride here in Atlanta with Eric Himan. Unfortunately, a bout of severe weather blew the main stage apart and all opening night events were cancelled. All of us Levi fans were very disappointed.
I feel the need to correct you on your Frailty information. Levi played Fenton as an adult in the latter portion of the movie. McConaughey actually portrayed the younger brother Adam as an adult. He was pretending to be Fenton to trap the cop played by Chaz Palmenteri.
Thanks for keeping me laughing all the time. I have a new job and they don't allow downloading podcasts across their network. I won't be able to listen at work anymore :-(. I will be relegated to weekends playing catch up for the week's shows.

Thanks for the clarification Jim! I guess I have to see the film in order to understand the relationship between Levi and Matthew.
For now lets say he played a "supporting role" opposite Matthew Mcconaughey.
I love Levi's honesty and easy going nature, don't you?
Imagine Lance Bass saying the same things. Like Miss Ronnie says, Levi's "keeping it real."

Jim-
I think that's the twist that nobody is suppossed to guess- or not. Although I did see the movie and did enjoy it, I don't remember what exactly happened in the movie. The IMDB.com says that Levi and Matthew are the same character. For whatever reason that may be.

Did we just give away the movie's ending?

Wonderful interview with Levi today. I would love to see him at Vlada on the 31st if I can make it. Perhaps we can have a special Feast Of Fools seating section or something. Hehe. That bar seems to be more and more a part of my gay drinking experience. I've been there several times and never had a dull moment. Much love always to you guys, and especially today to Levi. XOXO

I love hearing from Levi Kreis. He's such a sweetie and so hot. New music sounds great too. I'm off to buy it. Great interview guys. Would be great to hear from Levi again.
I checked out the Southern Baptist Sissies website but they are taking a break for 2007. Bummer, I wish they were coming out east.

Levi is a consummate artist. I heard him first on the Feast of Fools. I was so glad to listen to him again on your show. It was nice to hear more of his sense of humor.

Yes, he's a lot funnier this time around isn't he? It's amazing what a year out of the closet can do for someone!

I loved the interview with Levi, but I'm going to go against the norm. I know it's not popular, but I like monogomy. I hold that second only to honesty. I see more open relationships break apart, because the other is scared. Even worse I've seen some couples break up over STDs.
The main reason I like a one on one, is the best sex you're ever going to have is with someone who loves you and you love in return........ I'm sappy.... I know.

Weather it be monogamy or fill-in-the-blank-gamy, I appreciate Levi's honesty in talking about what his relationship is.
Relationships vary, and I do agree that when couples start sleeping with others it can get messy and ugly fast.
But come on, what Levi does isn't so unusual. A man who sleeps with multiple partners? Unheard of! Why it's the core plot to ABC's TV show "Ugly Betty!"
One thing we all need to do is to be able to communicate better with our partner what our feelings are in regards to any relationship we're in, and proceed from there. I feel for many people who for whatever reason can't do so.
