FOF #447 - Photoshop Psychic - 12.15.06

Podcast
After her surgery
to repair a hole in her heart, jazz vocalist Solitaire Miles turned to her computer and photoshop as a means to heal.

And what a journey it has been. Drawing on imagery from her spiritualist faith, Pre-Raphaelite inspired art and her passion for the nude female form, Solitaire under the pseudonym Cunis Dianolis landed an enormous following on Flickr (a fabulous photo blogging site).

And she went to high school with Marc Felion.

Marc, Solitaire were among a tight knit group of friends who terrorized the well-deserving small-town misanthropes. Years before there were any straight-gay alliances in high schools, they keep in touch decades later.

One of the only psychic mediums in the jazz community in Chicago, Solitaire's passion for the music of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey influence her own work on her up and coming CD release "Comes Love."

Listen today as we talk to our favorite lesbian stalker Shannon about her friend who was killed, and Solitaire gives her a reading which surprisingly was spot on. We also talked about nicknames, subconscious sexual imagery on Kellogg's Fruit Twistables and why Marc loves to eat glazed donuts.

wow about Shannon's friend. i had two friends of mine who were murdered by the same man three years apart because they wouldn't fuck him. they knew him from the internet and from local D&D groups. it's a long ugly story but thankfully he's on death row now.

and the stories about Marc and Solitare's high school/post-adolescent days were funny, but i loathe to think of Marc as a school bully - that would break my heart. as a bullying survivor that touches off some issues a bit, however you guys did say that these people were jerks to begin with so...i'll just let that go and not be nitpicky about it.

another thing...when are you guys gonna invite me on the show? am i not cool enough?

Hi Raequel,
I realize that we did come off as a bit bullying last night. When we were younger and in college, living in a small town and very repressed, we had alot of angst about the small minded-ness and restrictions that were inflicted upon us. I suppose that we acted out alot, and drank many martinis till we both finished college and moved to Chicago. The people that we described were not to nice to us to start with, and that's why, I think, we were so bitter about them. Marc is a very social, gracious and outgoing person, and he genuinely tries to like everyone he meets right off the bat. "Shitting Liz" and "Dykra Monstroso" were both kind of nasty, dark characters who refused kind, playful advances and even went so far as to abuse, so we responded with anger and taunting. We were young and foolish, and it was a time before we found ourselves, and were able to turn the cheek to that sort of thing. Perhaps the memories still sting a little which is why we were so gleeful in our descriptions last night.
I am very sorry if it offended anyone.

Thank you so much Solitaire, for listening to my story last night and being interested. It really means a lot. I hope everyone that heard it, got something out of it. You are amazing, and so is your artwork.

Thanks again,
shannon

Marc and Solitaire: Don't sweat the comments about you two being bullies. I also came from a circle of friends who came up with code names or nicknames for friends and enemies alike. And of course, none of them were particularly flattering, but that was the point. For our friends, it was a way for everyone to laugh at themselves, and for the folks who were just nasty and horrible, it was a way to vent without resorting to violence or property destruction. I don't think you were bullying in the least. More likely that not, if you were like my friends, you were usually on the other end of the bully dynamic, anyway.

Great show! Loved the histories behind the names! Thanks guys!

Thanks, everybody, for taking the time to listen in, and for your kind and supportive comments. I realize that it's a busy week everywhere with alot of schools having finals and the impending holiday approaching. Fausto says he plans on having me back some time in January to take psychic call-ins. I look forward to chatting with some of you then.

Solitaire, you are a healer, and that is very beautiful, as are your artworks, which are truly astounding. I look forward to hearing you on FOF again.
