FOF #435 - All About Breastfeeding - 11.29.06
If you're lucky, your mom breast-fed you. But if you're not chances are you're ok. So why do it?
Breast-feeding is one of those generous loving acts a mother and child can do that creates a special bond and helps give an infant what they need to build strong immune systems, teeth, and bones.
But oddly enough all through the 50s, 60s and 70s doctors were telling women not to breast-feed their kids and women were believing them.
On today's show my lovely mom Patricia Fernós joins us to talk about breast-feeding, her experience in being a La Leche League leader for over a decade, the breast-milk bank and the issues surrounding healthcare, the environment and child-rearing, with hilarious results.
Remember when we told you yesterday about the Brazilian lady who claimed her cat gave birth to pups? New DNA evidence removes any doubt about the possibility, but illustrates the appetite for outlandish news to distract us from the painful front pages, and the mess in the middle east.

Hey! So glad mami Patricia got to enjoy the turrón and to correctly read outloud my last name for everybody to hear :-D She's great, you should have her on the show more often.
What a coincidence that I listened to this podcast as I left the office to run some errands and when I got back there was a package waiting for me, I got my red t-shirt!! It is indeed fabulous! Can't wait to put it on!

It was very nice hearing you two interact with Fausto's Mom -- who is a delightful sounding person. I even heard Patricia start to sound a little like Talia at one point which was a bit of a flash back to the Expo. So all was good until near the end when you all were talking about the two-headed snake eating each other and then !BAM! you go right into that chocolate event PSA.
Timing is everything. Maybe a pregnant pause would have kept me from getting the visual that followed.
Nice show nonetheless.

Muchísimas gracias to Lis/Lena for her comments and to Mike for his. Mike, the reason there was no pause after the snake bit was because it was a 'flash in the pan' for me and I think for Fausto & Marc, so we didn't realize how much listeners would have liked a 'pregnant pause' at that moment... And Lis, your 'turrón' was simply delicious! I'm so glad you and I got our red FOF shirts at about the same time! Marc & Fausto are fun, aren't they? BTW, FOF, why not make your next color a gorgeous, sexy chocolate brown? Or what about a poster of you 2?
