FOF #432 - When Pilgrims Come - 11.20.06

We have so much to be thankful for. Number one, we have the delightful charming chanteur Jim Verraros in the house once again to help us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
But before you stuff your goose, turkey or tofurkey, before you get your best friend a RED Feast of Fools t-shirt for the holidays, it's time to reflect on what is good and fabulous in our lives.
Listen to Jim, Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós talk about a Thai zoo's recycling of Panda dung into souvenirs, girls with knifes and the fact that 400,000 people in the U.K. declared "Jedi" as their religion during in the 2001 census.
The act of people delcaring themselves as religious Jedi's illustrate the fact that many religions use fiction as a way of gathering followers and spreading their message, no matter what that message is.
Fiction is a BIG part of religion, since myth and faith are closely intertwined.
We just hope they stay on whatever the opposite side of the Dark side of the force is. What is it anyway? The Light side of the force? Is George Lucas their POPE?
These are things we didn't know we wanted to know, but now that we know about them, we want to find out!
Listen for a sneak preview of Jim's new up and coming album! What's it like to have deaf parents? What common word do non-native speakrs make when they are trying to sign the word lunch? You wont belive it. (HINT: the photo above is the common mistake people make when trying to sign LUNCH.)
There is always room for a little more FOF.

I saw the website and once I looked at the photo of Jim Verraros, I started to think about other words for American Sign Language and found the ASL Dictionary. It has a great listing of things, but the one I found funniest was the sign for homosexual.
Look it up if you want, it is pretty funny if I say so...especially with the middle finger and all.

I listened to the first Jim Veraros show, then the Tyler Duckworth show, and now back to this show. There is such a stark contrast between these two people. They have both had similar 'reality TV' experiences, and yet how that has affected them is quite different.
Tyler is apparently all about himself. How fabulous he is, how this, how that, how everything. Jim, on the other hand, is so down to earth, so humble. It is quite refreshing.
I would love to hear more shows with Jim, perhaps a Jim and Ms. Ronnie, or a Jim and Sal - E show(s). He is one of those rare instances of someone with fame that has not gone to his head. He has still remained a nice person. Thanks Jim for sharing with us. I hope you come back.

I heard or read somewhere that American Indian tribes allow/ed their gays to dress as women and do women's work, with no stigma, so they would love rainbow colors in their drinks!
Jim, I also used to say 'salmon' because I was raised in the Mexico and Texas at a time when salmon wasn't eaten and I had never heard the word. I still have to correct myself... And Fausto used to say 'eKLYPSE' for eclipse because he'd never had heard that word said before...
AND tell your parents hello from me and let them know how much us listeners enjoy when you are on FOF...

Sounds like you all had an excellent time for this show. Fausto was more free wheeling and spontaneous with his words, which was fun.
Thank you very much for the shout out on this show Fausto. I'm glad I found you guys so early on. If I didn't have you guys in my ear every day, it'd be libertarian talk radio so thank you!

FOF! A&E is producing a show called "what if gays went on strike" this sounds like an opp for you to pick up a sponsorship.
People, hook these boyz up!

Great show guys! So many great laugh out loud moments here. I'm sure I've said it beofre, but my favorite shows are always the ones where you're just letting the conversation go where it will. Jim is a amazingly funny guest and I hope he comes back for more. Have a happy Thanksgiving, boys.

Excellent show, guys. Jim seems to really fit in with you all. What a doll.
I had to laugh when you were talking about eating stuff in the grocery store. I had a friend in college who would always get three donuts at the bakery and munch on them while shopping, then when we got to the checkout stand she would hand the empty bag to the casheer and say "there were three donuts in that bag, but I ate them all... you know how it is" but if the checkout clerk was a cute boy she would hand him the bag and say innocently, "I can't believe I ate that whole donut". I called her on it once and she said, "Look, I am as honest as I can be, but there's no way in hell I'm going to tell a cute boy that I ate three donuts in under an hour."
In regards to the pronunciation of words, I was in a play once and this woman had to say the word "havoc", but she kept prouncing it as "HAY-vock". It turns out that she had grown up in Africa and even though she spoke fluent English she had never even heard the word "havoc" before. It took her all through rehearsals to get it right because she just couldn't wrap her mind around the diffrence in how the word was spelled and how it was pronounced.
I just need to say, I have so much to be thankful for so this Thursday will be a beautiful day of thanks for me, and you guys are part of that. Thank you for everything you do. I hope you know how much you are appreciated by myself and all of us who tune in every day. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving guys.
Much love and cranberry & turkey stuffed dog biscuits with gravy,
Puppy D
