FOF #414 - You Gotta Be Greatful - 10.24.06

We have much to be greatful for.
My lovely husband Marc Felion is back in town, Miss Ronnie is in the house, and I'm feeling quite fabulous myself, thank you! I missed Marc so much, it really was a dark time for me personally not having his sunshine around to warm my heart.
Special thanks to Shannon and Nic who have given me so much love during the time he was away.
This past week a gazoogle of gays just came out of the closet to the point we can hardly keep up. The very snuggable TR Knight from ABC's hit show Grey's Anatomy came out, RJ Helton from American Idol came out and Geroge Michael came out as a pot lover, smoking a joint on national television, to nobody's suprise. You go George!
Listen to Marc Felion, Miss Ronnie and me Fausto Fernós talk about Paris Syndrome, buying bullets online, stuff that makes Ronnie happy and lots of delicious Madonna bashing.
Everyone is a little bit gay every now and then on the Feast of Fools podcast.

Well FoF you make me feel so special! Great show today. It's fantastic to have the trinity back in effect. Mucho positive vibes out to Miss Ronnie. I identify with George Michael and think it is great that he well kinda stood up for a cause... dont you know he had to navigate through all types of reefer white noise such as doritos and buddhism to finally attempt to say something.. anyways I still love him the man who sang careless whisper can rape congressional pages for all I care. Much Love JimmyDe

There are a few mainstream musicians (and indie labels) who are beginning to wake up to the idea of podcasting as a means of marketing their music. Heavy metal group Lacuna Coil decided to release their most recent single "Closer" to the Podsafe Music Network before releasing it to radio. Other indie labels such as Epitaph, Anti, Aspirion, and Alligator are also waking up.
Now, if we can only convince the other members of the musical oligopoly to do the same, there might be some great stuff for all of us to play in the Podosphere.
Disclaimer: I am not employed by the Podsafe Music Network, nor do I receive any compensation from them.

I agree David- any musician that isn't sending out their material to get their music played on podcasts is really missing the boat here.

I was sorta surprised about TR Knight, but that was mainly because I had not watched enough episodes of Grey's Anatomy. While most people were drooling over Patrick Dempsey (ok, so did I), I always thought TR was the cuter one. I have a weakness for puppy-dog eyes.
Daryl, I agree with you as well. The major problem with some startup groups is that they want to jump all the way to the "making money" stage right from the getgo. While that certainly is an admirable goal, it does put the cart befroe the horse. The first step is to get--and keep--a following, and the way to do that is to do some nonpaying gigs, then get into some local music festivals or events, and work up from there.
I agree that any band that passes up a chance at exposing their music to a potential audience is crazy, but it is not always that band's or artist's call. For the ones who are willing to give up some royalty money for the priceless exposure, the payback can be immense. Artists like Merle Haggard, Collin Raye, Joshua Kadison, and even Lesley "It's My Party" Gore are finding a new and grateful audience in the Podosphere, and I for one am grateful.
