FOF #397 - Silence of the Showgirls - 09.27.06

Podcast
See you tonight.
We're putting the finishing touches for our LIVE podcast recording at Micky's in West Hollywood. Will you be there? Click here for a Yahoo map to the place. The fun starts at 8pm, so don't be late!

Amanda Steinstein, Marc Felion, Miss Ronnie, Sal-E and I will all be there along with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and puppeteers Marsian De Lellis & Heather Heson (of Muppets fame.)

Although we are simply thrilled to be in Los Angeles, right now I am peeing in my pants. My favorite scary movie, Showgirls is being turned into a musical by the same people who made the original film.

The tacky costumes, the horrible dialouge, the unsexy sexy dancing and the rape scene (and the revenge scene) will all be part of the musical version of the notorious Paul Verhoven film that ruined Elizbeth Berkley's acting career and re-invigorated Gina Gershon's.

But before we rush out to buy our tickets for opening night, on today's show Amanda, Marc and I come up with some improvised possible songs they might be using in the musical. We hope you enjoy our original songs "Get the Ice" "Dancing Ain't F*cking" and "You Like Doggie Chow Too?"

Get the ice! Get the ice!

I think you guys have found a new catchphrase for the show. "Quarter Turns!" will never die, but it may have found some "stiff" competition.

I have a list of all time favorite quotes, among them the last words of Oscar Wilde "Either that wallpaper goes, or I do.", and now I can add one more...

"The Pope is a fucktard" - Amanda Steinstein

That was just priceless. And I just saw Showgirls about a month ago in a theater with about 40 gay men (most of them bears) and one elderly gentleman whom I'm not sure knew what he was getting into. So your show today had me laughing out loud the whole time. Yes, I have to get the DVD of that movie and yes, I need to go to Vegas when the musical opens.

I think there should be a song that the owner of the Cheeta sings to Nomi at the end... "I hope you find what you're looking for, I hope you don't get pneumonia, It's gonna be weird at that new club... not having guys cum on ya".

Until this evening,
~pup don

i need an opinion - should i buy the VIP box set of showgirls... never seen it before and now i'm intrigued...

the box set includes some extra stuff that looks pretty funny and more special features... like a commentary by this guy who i read is a bit of a fanatic and kinda creepy... but wonder if anyone else has it and if they think it's worth it?

Thanks!

ps... PUP DON - i agree... "the pope is a fucktard" - almost made me spray my coffee all over my comp. great stuff

Holy Iesu...did I really say that??

I swear, I get into some kind of zone (the twilight kind most likely) when I do this show.

I think I oversimplified just a teeny bit.

His Holiness is an insulated, blindly revered, backwards minded, misogynist former Hitler youth. Whether or not this also makes him a fuctard is up to you.

Kisses,
AS

PS: Don't buy the DVD of Showgirls until you at least rent the movie so you can decide if it's OTT enough to be camp. I think it sort of wavers between crap and camp.

Said by: Amanda Steinstein at September 30, 2006 09:57 AM

Thanks Amanda! I guess I'll have to find a 'pirated' version of the movie somewhere in Malaysia... people don't rent here which kinda sucks... but yeah... buying the pirated version is just about the same price! hmmm...

or maybe not.

i'm naughty...

i agree with all the comments about the Pope. he's scary.

much love!

Amanda, I absolutely love you, because up until now I'd never heard anyone besides myself use the word 'Fucktard'--You are truly a kindred spirit. I am one of those rare people who has never seen Showgirls, but after this podcast, it's on the top of my 'to rent' list!

Hi guys, Two days ago, I was at an off-broadway musical in nyc of " The Fantasticks" and was sitting 3 seats away from George Takei. He was busy talking to others, so I did not get a chance to chat with him.

I hope you guys had a great time in L.A. The pic of you guys looks fabulous!

I'm a little behind on listening to the FoF, so I just heard this one. Have you looked into LibSyn for hosting your shows? I checked their prices, and it looks like it'd only be $30/mo. for a show as long as yours. You can still have this site, but the files would be coming from their servers.

Amanda: Your perfume reminded me of a line from Christine Lavin's song "The Bug" -- have you heard it? She's hilarious. If you haven't heard it, I'd be happy to send it to you.
