FOF #394 - Gays on a Plane - 09.22.06

Podcast
Gays on a plane just might be the best podcast ever made!
Last week it was published in the New Yorker magazine a really awful story of a gay couple being seen as a terrorist threat on an airline because a steward was upset at their holding hands, kissing and snuggling on an airplane flight from Paris to New York. (Thanks to Mark Wade for the news!)

Since when was being gay such a big threat to national security?

In other news, ABC television has gone gay this week. With former Gov. Jim McGreevy and American Idol finalist Clay Aiken revealing or denying their personal stories of being gay.

But it seems that the FCC doesn't allow most words used to describe gay sex, and so when talking about it, Jim McGreevey, weather he's on Oprah or the View sounds like a bad cell phone connection.
Oh and Oprah infers that gay relations are "UNATURAL." What do you think of that?

The podcast that is free to be you and me, whenever you want it to be- the Feast of Fools podcast.

I'm going to respond to the Oprah question now, even before I hear what you guys have to say about it.

She was very obviously hurt for all women and was taking it out on him during the show. You could, at times, even see the sneer on her face when she had to talk to him. She was harsh on him, unsympathic and vindictive. She could not get past the fact that he did this to a straight woman and I believe she took it personally. (I think she's had the same conversation with Stedman).

I was very disappointed in her performance for that show. For Mr McGreevy, I thought he was handling it alirght (I would have stood up to her) but I hated that he kept throwing god into the conversation. It was as if he were trying to say, "look at me, even though I'm queer, don't hate me too much because I still love god.

The most humiliating point came when she FORCED him to read that passage of the book to her audience. Oh and that so so awkward kiss between Jim and his partner.

All in all, not a step forward for queerdom or humanity. You could feel that she thought he was disgusting and dirty and not worthy of compassion. After all, if it weren't for society, Jim would not have had to do what he did.

Piss on Oprah. I throw my shoe at her.

Highly vociferous homophobic people seem VERY suspicious to me - aren't they're just hiding/ rejecting some of their own deep-seated feelings? Or is Oprah trying to replace George W.?

I saw the Oprah Interview with Jim Mcgreevy and i did find some of the questions she did ask were inappropriate and showed no relevance such as topics like his feelings on having sex with a woman. I think their too personal of a question that shouldn't even be brought up. I do think that since he is a former politican and him bringing up the christian factor is a standard issue that a lot of politicans use in their campaign. I think its great that Mr. Mcgreevy restored his faith with God but he brought it up too much during the interview.

Great show today!!!

I really liked this podcast and your comments. I still don't agree about Jon-Paulus. He is not an innocent victim. I don't care who he had sex with, he is just wanting his 15 minutes of fame.

good show today... tres amusing.

have my t-shirts been sent out yet? too bad we don't get diane sawyer in malaysia because i would've loved to have seen that clay aiken interview and hear the cackle. fun.

oh yeah, that story about the 2 guys on the plane... really sad that it had to happen. stupid cow of an air stewardess. she should look at her male co-workers... who... are... all... gay (well, mostly).

reminds me of the restrictions of public display of affection in malaysia... it's quite funny, i've heard stories of people kissing a little in public, and people come up and tut tut at them or tell them to stop. HIlarious.

Great show! I forced my husband to listen to it with me in the car while trapped in traffic on the A23, and even he had to grudgingly admit it was damn funny. Though I did have to explain "quarter turns" to him!
