FOF #356 - Egg-vertising - 07.31.06

Podcast
It's almost like a sign
saying "These eggs are NOT the freshest you can find." CBS television has partnered up with some egg making company to put advertising slogans for their tv shows on the shells. We don't make this stuff up folks.

What kind of slogans would you come up with to promote the Feast of Fools podcast on eggshells? We came up with a few good ideas here. Share yours on the comments page, we promise not to advertise on any eggs now or in the future.

On today's show the Rev. DJ and his Italian stallion boyfriend Tony come over to hang with thy flaming blue one and his sexi-mexican friend César to pontificate about all sorts of eggceptional topics.

Sorry I couldn't help myself. Wont you take a moment and vote for us for a People's Choice Award? It takes the will of you, the people to help us win this historic award. (The first GLBT category for a podcast, don't you know.)

Also today, Fausto says good bye to his lovely and talented sister Talia who is leaving the windy city of Chicago to pursue her dreams of showbusiness in the big exciting world of high mathematics at UCLA! That's Dr. Talia to you good people. Bye Talia! I'll miss you so SO much.

The podcast that is always on the F-list, but never on the F-U list- the Feast of Fools.

Cocktail: Agua Fresca

During the summer, all over Mexico people beat the heat by throwing fresh fruit into a blender and mixing it with tons of water, a little bit of sugar and a pinch of salt as a low-sugar alternative to soda.

Agua Fresca literally means "Fresh Water" because its water laced with a strong flavor of whatever fresh fruit is handy.

You can make this at home and pretend you're the boss of a small rustic villa subjugating your sexy Mexican workers to carry out your every command, no matter how sexy it may be.

In this recipe we're using limes, but it works well also with cantaloupe, fresh strawberries, watermelon, cucumbers or even honeydew and basil!

Gently mix in a blender
• one ripe lime
• a teaspoon of raw unwashed sugar
• a pinch of kosher salt

Strain mixture and throw into a pitcher filled with ice and garnish with slices of lime. If you want to booze this one up, we recommend using a clear flavorless spirit like vodka or something with a little more bold character like tequila.

FOF #355 - Fresh Water - 07.28.06

Podcast
My pal Sal-E came over
to show me his family's not-so-secret recipie for Mexican flavored water. It's delicious!

You see folks, it's really hot here in the Windy City during the summer, and we just had to kick it back with some Agua Fresca to reminisce about our familes, sibling rivalry, and what drag is and isn't.

Listen as Chicago's Top Model of the nightclub, Sal-E, dishes the dirt on Madge's immaculate throne, 15 year old carnival queens, New Zeland lawyers in drag, and why you should REALLY watch your drink when you go out to bars.

Listen up! There are new drugs out there that assholes are using to rape women in bars. So sisters, watch your drinks.

On a happier note, today begins the offical voting for the Podcasting People's Choice Awards. Please take a moment and help celebrate Sal-E's 33rd birthday (it's today) by voting for the show! Only one vote per listener per day, and please do NOT cheat! If you want the FOF to win, vote every day until August 11th.

FOF #354 - I am Gay! - 07.27.06

Podcast
If June parades bring out the everyday gays, what does July bring out?
Celebrities, of course!

It seems everyone is coming out these days. Former N'Sync teeny bopper Lance Bass came out yesterday saying loud and proud "I am Gay." or "The allegations that I have been in a relationship with reality tv star Reichen Leihmkul are true." Either way, we're happy for him. It took him 29 years, but there are reports that he's also 35 years old. Coming out of the gay closet seems easier than coming out of the age closet. Either way, we're happy for him. Oh wait, I already said that.

On today's show, Marc and Fausto ponder Oprah and Gayle's denial and Lance and Reichens' affirmation. By the way, your favorite podcast Feast of Fools was nominated for a People's Choice Award! So make sure you help us win the GLBT gold by voting for us every day starting tomorrow. Click here to see the nomination!

Lots of chit chat on Lubbockian Texans desire to have god smile upon them, the Aussie Slang Bible, and the rocking the vote tomorrow. Get ready!

Pictured on the right is an unretouched photo of Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl at a swining party in P-Town.

Thin shavinings of ginger
Top off with Champagne

Into a martini shaker shave off pieces of ginger. Add Ice and Vodka. Shake until well chilled. Pour into a chilled martini glass until its two-thirds full. Top off with chilled Champagne. Garnish with fresh fruit like mango or a melonball.

FOF #353 - Bon Voyage Baby - 07.26.06

Podcast
Our sweet pal Jordan is moving to Japan.
Why? He says he's studying abroad, but we think it's for the hot asian men, the U.S. military men, and the harajuku boys. Oh yes, the land of the rising sun is also the land of the rising cocks. And I'm not talking roosters.

For a whole year Jordan is going to be producing short pieces on being an American homo in Japan and his experiences there. Stay tuned on the Feast of Fools for updates on Jordan's travels to Japan.

Listen as we're joined by his friend Fred Boursier as we talk about knife weilding grannies, dangerous art objects, people's addiction to cell phone use during sex, and of course cocktails. Glorious cocktails. What would podcasters do without ye?

FOF #352 - Stem Cell This - 07.25.06

Podcast
Miss Ronnie is mad as hell.
More than just your everyday pissed off-ness.

President Junior has taken upon himself to dash the hopes of every single person in a wheelchair living in this country by virtually killing stem cell reasearch in this country. If Miss Ronnie could smack this idiot in the head with a frying pan without spending the rest of her life in prison you know she would.

This country's top appointed official (we don't belive President Bush has ever been elected President) says that stem cell research is akin to murder, but has no problem cutting funding on the poor, HIV/AIDS, student loans, urban development, you know stuff this country needs in order to function. He happily sends people to die in a senseless war, and even in his spare time loves to put the mentally disabled to death. I guess he's scared of someone smarter than he is.

You want your Gay Games? We got your gayest, gamiest, most delicious podcast right here. On today's show César Torres and I, your tastiest, bluest and delectable podcaster Fausto Fernós reminisce about the good, the bad, and the ugly side of the Gay Games.

In all seriousness, here at the world's most downloaded gay podcast headquarters (otherwise known as FOF Central) want to give a very special shout out to all our international listeners who bravely download each and every single show every day and listen to it in the privacy of their own iPod.

We want to salute all the tens of thousands of gays, lesbians, trannies, bi-folks and those of you who would rather not say who came this past week to Chicago to run, jump, and roll your way into our collective hearts and minds.

As difficult as it was to see most of the Gay Games events due to the hot weather, transportation and facility challenges, it was all worth it just to see your smiling faces being the best you could be at your sport.

Cocktail: The Chicago Razor

Our Mexi-licious correspondent César Torres brought us this tasty, health-friendly recipe during Gay Games week when he competed with his triathlon team the Chicago Razors. The Razors' official cocktail is also a good alternative to pies. Seriously. If it's good enough for Chicago's premier gay triathletes, it's good enough for you.

This cocktail keeps you away from simple sugars, which are detrimental to the waistline. It does, however, give you a boost from the caffeine and also gives you the vitamin C and health benefits of cranberry juice without the ever deadly high fructose corn syrup. You can feel yourself getting fit as you drink it.

4 oz. Sugar-free energy drink
4 oz. No-sugar-added cranberry juice
4 oz. Premium vodka

Add ingredients into a mixer with ice, shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with fresh berries or an orange rind.

FOF #350 - Get Your Gay Games On! - 07.21.06

Podcast
Amidst the majestic trumpet musak,
tens of thousands of gay and lesbian athletes and their fans are gathering in Chicago for the Gay Games VI, a complex sporting event that embraces homosexuality and people from all walks of life.

On today's show our in-house resident Gay Gamin' triathlete César Torres joins me to reminisce on the Gay Games opening ceremony last weekend at Solider Field that brought in a huge range of performers from tacky and wacky to loud and proud.

My good friend Jason Smith joined me as I walked around the ceremonies talking to athletes from around the world like Ricardo from Argentina, Hermie from the Philippines, Chari from New York City, Rita from Arizona and Donna and her girlfriend Gina from Brooklyn.

Photographed here on the right by Jason Smith is your blue pal sporting an ACTUAL Gay Games medal from the 1994 Gay Games in New York City. Don't ask me what I had to do to win it.

FOF #348 - Not in Front of the Media - 07.19.06

Podcast
Our newly found fame has gotten to Marc's head.
He's gotten himself some fancy "Blu Blockers" sunglasses to try to look glamorous for the media. Shutting me out is just a side benefit to the powerful shades.

The good people at BeepCentral.com, Mary Beth Nolan and Jeff Schwister have come over to our home studio to watch us record our show so Marc naturally got anxious and put on his Blu Blockers to hide from the awesome glare of the media. Awesome I tells ya.

Look at what the net dragged in. The internet that is. On the East coast Reichen Lehmkul's has caught himself a rainbow trout, and by that I mean a Lance Bass and the two have been seen arm in arm at some of the best gay parties. Have they been spotted making out, holding hands or sharing each other's clothing? Is everything going swimmingly?

But is our former NYSNC hearthrob and cosmonaut-wanna-be Lance Bass gay? Does he want to come out, or sit pretty in an air-conditioned Imelda Marcos inspired closet? Is this ambiguously gay duo are having their meatcake and eating it too? Well it sure is causing quite a stir among bloggers and and media types.

"Coming out is a personal, private decision that needs to be made by the individual. Media speculation about people's sexual orientation is not something we support." says Damon Romine, the entertainment media director for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. This is a guy who is supposed to be lobbying Hollywood and the media for positive representation of gays, not defending queenie celebrities who are timid about their true sexualty, no matter how much they may want to circumnavigate the issue.

Lance Bass looks like a big ol' dyke. Just like Brandon Routh before Superman, or Ellen Degeneres in the 1990's.

Someone should tell Reichen that Bass is a sport fish, not good for eating. But then again, Reichen is an expert fisherman who is great at the catch-and-release.

The Feast of Fools is the podcast that makes your iPod go gay. But from the looks of your playlists, it was well on its way.

FOF #347 - Stretching for the Gay Games - 07.18.06

Podcast
Gay Games Week is here in Chicago,
and we've been invaded with legions of handsome gay men (and lesbians) from all around the world. We're NOT complaining.

Our Mexican-American regular César Torres has gone downtown and registered to participate in the Gay Games triathlon. The interesting thing is that he's already gotten his "participatory medal" which they give to all the athletes when they pay their $195 registration fee plus $35 event charge.

The Gay Games may very corny bun in realty it's a complex mix of wholesome gay men and lesbians coming together to celebrate and compete in an embracing environment where everyone is welcome.

At the end of a race your boyfriend comes out of the stands and hugs and kisses you. Thats really cool.

Today Sal-E and César Torres reflect on the up and coming Gay Games, religious symbols in gay culture, a new documentary about Sal-E you wont be seeing anywhere soon, and why Madonna nor Kathy Griffin will perform anywhere for less than 30 grand.

Stay tuned this week for special behind the scenes interviews with gay games athletes, the opening ceremony, fans and people from far off as Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the Philippines.

FOF #346 - Seducing a Dangerous Muse - 07.17.06

Podcast
Music whiz kids Tom Napack and Mike Furey
met in college during a production of the Who's Tommy. Later on they collaborated on a song called "The Rejection" about Mike spurning a girl who was coming on to him on the dance floor.

A couple of months later Mike was at a cocktail party when he was introduced by his friend Peter Stern to Seymour Stein, the founder of Sire Records. To make a short story even shorter, Mike played Seymour their demo song "The Rejection" on his iPod, and just like in the movie "A Star is Born", Seymour signed him and Tom up on the spot!

We're not sure if claiming you were discovered by the same guy who discovered Madonna is a good thing, but whatever works works.

Nowadays these two hot, very likeable guys are in the process of developing their new album and are traveling around the country performing their song "The Rejection." All because of their iPod and a couple of well-mixed drinks.

Listen as we talk to the dynamic duo known as Dangerous Muse about their music, why Logic Audio Express rocks, "Ambisexuality" and how they used their iPod to land a record deal.

Dangerous Muse performs with their full band here in Chicago this Wednesday July 19th at Circuit Nightclub with queer Cuban rocker Ariel Aparicio and DJ Kimberly S. Doors open at 9pm. Tickets are $12. Sponsored by PINK Magazine. Circuit is located at 3641 N. Halsted Street in Lakeview, Chicago. Call (773) 325-2323 for more more information.

FOF #344 - Podcasters with Candy - 07.13.06

Podcast
Amanda Steinstein is very intrigued
by a delicious looking candy jock strap that our listener Jonathan from Indiana gave us when he took us out to dinner a couple of weeks ago in Chicago.

What is its is a candy necklace in jock strap form. It's the novelyt gift you might want to give someone, but in reality it would never give you the support nor the deliciousness you would expect from such a sweet sounding gift.

On other news, our good friends at GayCo, the big local gay comedy troupe are celebrating their 10th anniversary with a jam-packed show full of their best material from the past decade. And to make the show extra special, Amanda Steinstein is in it!

Yes folks, you can see Amanda in the GayCo show even though she's not a lesbian (or is she?) whoop it up with some of the brightest and best in Chicago's gay comedy scene. Click here to see the show!

FOFA #167 - Shopping at Macy Gray's - 07.12.06

Podcast
WHERE IS RONNIE? Although we haven't heard of or seen Miss Ronnie
in months, we still think fondly of her and wonder how she's doing. (Give us a call soon, will ya?)

Today we revisit the VERY FIRST Feast of Fools podcast episode that featured Miss Ronnie. We had just run into her at a local restaurant, and I remembered her from Clarks on Clark as this sassy, loudmouthed, hysterially funny woman who commanded a presecnce at the bar. I said to her "I'm going to make you a star one day." And what a shining star she is.

While we investigate where MIss Ronnie has gone to, we're been busy this week trying to find someone to fill the aching hole in our hearts she's left behind.

Stay tuned later this week to hear our Miss Ronnie auditions.

[Originally posted on October 10, 2005.]

The lovely Miss Ronnie, a local neighborhood gal pal of ours used to work for a local casting agency in Chicago where she got to meet tons of B-list celebrities.

One of our favorite stories is how she got to 'light up' with Macy Gray in a bathroom and then later got to ask singer David Bowie for an autograph. Listen to today's show to find out what David said to Ronnie.

So much trash talk on celebrities, you'd think we were hanging with Kathy Griffin! Today we exhaustively talked about Tom Cruise's need for two toilets on the set. (just WHO is this man's publicist?) and 50-Cent's public relations disaster where he had to allegedly beat children to get the money he gave away to them back.

FOFA #300 - A Look Inside Margaret Cho - 07.11.06

Podcast
The Gay Games finally brings thousands of hot athelets to try for their personal best in the Windy City of Chicago.
Along with all the mayem, excitement and buzz, the town is prepping for a deluge of queer atheletes and queer-friendly celebrities.

Among the finest and the sharpest is comedian Margaret Cho, who earlier in May took time off her busy tour schedule to talk in-depth about her comedy, controversy, and why she thought it would be funny to say that First Lady Laura Bush's vagina tastes like lysol.

The fascinating thing we found out later, is that Lysol disinfectant was in fact marketed to women in the 1960's as a personal hygene product. Sometimes folks, the truth is stranger than fiction, and it comes with a lovely pine-fresh scent!

[Originally posted on May 1, 2005.]

Comedy heroine and freedom fighter Margaret Cho joins us today in an exclusive podcast interview to celebrate the 300th episode of the Feast of Fools podcast. Happy May Day!

Born in the late 60's in San Francisco, Margaret Cho grew up in a counter-cultural atmosphere that helped shape her comedic sensiblities.

In the mid-90's she joined the ranks of comedians (Ellen DeGeneres, Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Rosanne and Drew Carey) that have had their acts turned into a sitcom when ABC televsion decided to have her star on the sitcom "All American Girl."

The behind-the-scenes conflict with tv excecutives over ethinc identity and her body plus problems with poor ratings left this critically acclaimed program canceled after it's first year.

Not to be daunted, Margaret Cho returned to the national spotlight with her off-broadway hit show "I'm The One That I Want" about her experiences on the tv show.

In 2003 she embarked on a sold-out national tour of her show "Revolution" of which the CD was nominated for a Grammy for best comedy album of the year for 2003. She also won a "Worst Dressed" award for the dress she wore to the awards ceremony.

Not a person to shy away from controversy, her comments about the Bush administration at a Moveon.org political rally (where she said "Laura Bush's pussy tastes like Lysol") made her the focus of an intense conservative backlash.

Laughing all the way to the bank, Maraget Cho now holds the distinction of having the feature film of her off-broadway show brake records for grossing more per print than any film in history ($1.4 million with only nine prints).

Margaret Cho returns to Chicago on Sunday July 16th to the Chicago Theater to perform a new show "Freedom ‘06." Click here to buy your tickets in advance.

Listen to this remarkable outspoken woman talk candidly about politics, shyness, family, career and sexuality on the 300th show of the Feast of Fools podcast.

FOFA #205 - D-List Diva - 07.10.06

Podcast
One of our favorite all-time guests of 2005
was comedian Kathy Griffin who invited us to sit in the back seat of her limo to talk about the nature of her comedy and the issues that come up when most of your material is based on your everyday life and your personal contacts in the entertainment industry.

[Originally posted on December 8, 2005.]

Comedian Kathy Griffin was delighted upon seeing our resident drag queen Victoria Lamarr impersonating her last week when she flew into town to host Malibu Rum's Holiday Self-Decorating Contest at Duffy's.

Today we talk to our favorite fiery redhead Kathy Griffin in the back seat of her limo about breastfeeding, Star Jones, her parents, and Jerry Seinfeld. We had such a good time Fausto wound up grabbing her right breast to see if they were real or not, a la Tyra Banks. Are they REAL? Listen and find out!

FOFA #213 - That's Why the Lady is a Tramp - 07.07.06

Podcast
Even though we poke a lot of fun at Lady Bunny,
we hold her in high regard as gay entertainment legend. Listen to this in-depth interview with the Bunny herself where she explains how she comes up with her material, why she dresses the way she does and why her mamma is so gosh darn proud of her son/daughter.

[Originally posted on December 20, 2005.]

Subversive and perversive,THE Lady Bunny joins us today to talk about her debut DVD "X-Rated: For X-tra Retarded" a video collection of her greatest hits from her nightclub comedy act.

Originally born in Chattanooga Tennessee, Lady Buny first moved to Atlanta Georgia to go to Georgia State University and then in the 1980's moved to New York City to become part of a vibrant community of drag performers.

Lady Bunny's probably best known for organizing and founding the New York City Outdoor Drag Festival Wigstock, which in 1995 became the subject of a documentary "Wigstock The Movie" directed by Barry Shills.

In addition to emceeing the annual Wigstock event for over 20 years she's a well known DJ, promoter, and comedian.

Her blog on her web site, ladybunny.net, is a sharp, politically aware and at times loopy take on current affairs and cultural issues and recently featured a photo of herself next to Jeff Stryker's penis, which claims to be one of the largest penises in the world. And from the looks of it, I dont doubt it!

Llisten to Lady Bunny talk about Pamela Anderson and the Comedy Central Roast, the politics of drag and her former roommate RuPaul, and her mother Lady Becky, who threatens to run onto the stage and steal the show with her tambourine. Wouldn't that be a sight!

Visit Lady Bunny's website and buy "X-Rated: For X-tra Retarded"

What happened on that infamous first date when Clay met John? Listen and find out.

Lots of magic moments with Garageband 3, sound effects, and the ability of mind to imagine the sound of rain to transform into the sound of a hot skillet. V-marr squeals in delight with all the new bells and whistles.

We also discuss some freaky news about urine filled dildos, George Michael gets arrested again and a man who marries a goat!

FOF #343 - Give Them the Finger - 07.05.06

Podcast
A man in Corpus Christi, Texas recently
pulled a Vincent Van Gogh and sent his ex-girlfriend a severed finger in the mail (presumably his) to show how they will always be able to stay "in touch."

Eeew! Thankfully most of the fabulous things our listeners send us are fruity, fabulous and fun.

If you have something you'd like to send us in the mail, send it to:
Feast of Fools
5315 N. Clark Street, #242
Chicago, IL 60640-2113

We love crazy care packages of all sorts of bizzare, delicious, and discussion-worthy objects. But if you want to support the show by getting a t-shirt, that wouldn't hurt either!

On today's Black and Blue and Brown podcast- César, DJ and me Fausto chit that about stuff that makes us fat, smelling magic markers to get high, popper propaganda, creepy presents, and the many colorful uses for a swiss ball.

Boris Kodjoe, why won't you return our calls?

Pictured here is me eating one of the local hillbilly drag queens face, because she's so tasty and lovely. The photo was taken by Wendy Malley of the Gabber Jaw podcast on Gay Pride 2006.

The podcast that is not for the faint of heart! Consult your physician before listening to the Feast of Fools podcast.

FOF #342 - They Hate Us for Our Freakness - 07.04.06

Podcast
Happy Independence Day everyone!
As you enjoy this special holiday FOF, take a moment to contact your local congressperson to inform them that you want to keep the internet free and independent from the evil corporate money grubbing telecommunications companies. Click here to learn more about the cause of Net Neutrality.

Marc's out of town, so my honey-skinned contingent of the Feast of Fools, César Torres and the Rev. DJ join me to talk to my mother about depression.

Patricia is great at curing the blues, weather it's listening to her talk about getting a massage, or actually understanding the nature of depression which is misplaced anger. You don't know why you is so mad, so you hurt someone else, or yourself. Happy 4th of July everyone!

Hate the Feast of Fools for our freedom, stay for our mouth watering ribs.

FOF #341 - Bring Your Podcaster to Work Day - 07.03.06

Podcast
Today we bring you to work!

We taped this show on Saturday to show you how Marc gets to work, and to join us for the drive over to the Star Bar.

Marc is bringing his suitcase to the bar because he's going on a much needed vacation from work, Chicago, podcasting and his husband! If you guys live in the Erie, Pennsylvania area, be sure to try and get a hold of Marc the next 3 days he's there.

Listen as we bake in my crappy, air-conditionless car and muse about the internet, the printing press, and the age of colonialization.

Listen as I share my visualization secrets I learned in art school, about thinking about your world as a better place and how to make the fantasy real.

The podcast that suffers for the cause of podcasting, one drop of sweat at a time- the Feast of Fools.
