FOFA #300 - A Look Inside Margaret Cho - 07.11.06

Podcast
The Gay Games finally brings thousands of hot athelets to try for their personal best in the Windy City of Chicago.
Along with all the mayem, excitement and buzz, the town is prepping for a deluge of queer atheletes and queer-friendly celebrities.

Among the finest and the sharpest is comedian Margaret Cho, who earlier in May took time off her busy tour schedule to talk in-depth about her comedy, controversy, and why she thought it would be funny to say that First Lady Laura Bush's vagina tastes like lysol.

The fascinating thing we found out later, is that Lysol disinfectant was in fact marketed to women in the 1960's as a personal hygene product. Sometimes folks, the truth is stranger than fiction, and it comes with a lovely pine-fresh scent!

Comedy heroine and freedom fighter Margaret Cho joins us today in an exclusive podcast interview to celebrate the 300th episode of the Feast of Fools podcast. Happy May Day!

Born in the late 60's in San Francisco, Margaret Cho grew up in a counter-cultural atmosphere that helped shape her comedic sensiblities.

In the mid-90's she joined the ranks of comedians (Ellen DeGeneres, Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Rosanne and Drew Carey) that have had their acts turned into a sitcom when ABC televsion decided to have her star on the sitcom "All American Girl."

The behind-the-scenes conflict with tv excecutives over ethinc identity and her body plus problems with poor ratings left this critically acclaimed program canceled after it's first year.

Not to be daunted, Margaret Cho returned to the national spotlight with her off-broadway hit show "I'm The One That I Want" about her experiences on the tv show.

In 2003 she embarked on a sold-out national tour of her show "Revolution" of which the CD was nominated for a Grammy for best comedy album of the year for 2003. She also won a "Worst Dressed" award for the dress she wore to the awards ceremony.

Not a person to shy away from controversy, her comments about the Bush administration at a Moveon.org political rally (where she said "Laura Bush's pussy tastes like Lysol") made her the focus of an intense conservative backlash.

Laughing all the way to the bank, Maraget Cho now holds the distinction of having the feature film of her off-broadway show brake records for grossing more per print than any film in history ($1.4 million with only nine prints).

Margaret Cho returns to Chicago on Sunday July 16th to the Chicago Theater to perform a new show "Freedom ‘06." Click here to buy your tickets in advance.

Listen to this remarkable outspoken woman talk candidly about politics, shyness, family, career and sexuality on the 300th show of the Feast of Fools podcast.

Said by: Jake from CHarlotte,NC at July 11, 2006 03:38 AM

Fausto & Marc - Guys are we ever going to get a new show? Sorry but i've listened to all these best-off shows already and i'm yearning for my FoF.

Peace.

Loyal listener,

Drew

P.S. Margaret Cho episode didn't re-post to iTunes this morning for some reason, so it doesn't show up on my poddy.

No worries for my but the other iTunes queens may be wondering.

Said by: PoloDrew at July 11, 2006 05:34 AM

Come on guys, give Fausto and Marc a break... As addictive as FOF is, don't think it'll kill you not listening to new episodes for a couple of days. :) Though kinda strange time for them to do repeats -- given dropping ratings and all. :-P

Yo, Marc & Fausto... Don't know who made the mistake -- the podcast XML file seem to be broken (at least the RSS portions of it). The "enclosure" URL is incorrect, which, unfortunately, is what my podcast receiver relies on to download the podcast episodes

I think all of the "enclosure" URLs are missing a "."

Ya'll, even God had rest on the seventh day... It good to hear these repost especially for those who haven't heard them before, it gives a little insight on some of the catch phrases said on the podcast.

Said by: Revdj at July 11, 2006 07:58 AM

Fausto and Marc need to have a break away from podcasting, I'd imagine. It must be a lot of work, and they are very deserving of it as well. I am sure new episodes will be just as FoF fabulous when they come on again.

I am looking forward to the new ones. Best wishes to Fausto and Marc today!

Said by: Kyle at July 11, 2006 08:17 AM

I'm dieing without my feast of fools dose, please give us a new show even if it's just fifteen minutes long.

Said by: George at July 11, 2006 10:42 AM

goodness... some people are just impatient impatient impatient. I'm sure now that Marc is back and the holiday week is over, new shows will appear very shortly. :)

Said by: Jordan at July 11, 2006 10:46 AM

CHILL, Babies! They're both travelling, remember? Fausto went to visit his mom in Texas and Marc wen to visit family in Pennsylvania.

Fausto does have a mobile recording device, but I don't think they do the production on a laptop. So Fausto probably isn't able to do the mastering, mixing, compression and upload from the road.

Rest assured, I'm sure once they get back, we'll be listening to the "Sounds of Texas" for a week.

Said by: rick in San Diego at July 11, 2006 10:52 AM

People, ease up. Fausto and Marc devote every single day to FOF. If anything we should be grateful that they don't take the whole summer off. A week or two of classic episodes is more than fine.

We love you two and hope you are enjoying every second of your well deserved vacation. Maybe take a few extra days off just to spite the people who are being pissy. ;-)

Said by: Ben from MI at July 11, 2006 11:12 AM

I talked to Fausto last nite his doing fine Marc also. So Ya'll don't worry you little heads they'll be back soon with a new podcast.. kisses.. Note it does take a lot to do a podcast everyday, I've seen it firsthand hats off to Fausto and Marc for making it seem so easy.. ;)

Said by: Revdj at July 11, 2006 11:29 AM

Kids, even podcasting superstars like Fausto and marc need to recharge their batteries. What do you prefer? A rundown, tired podcast or something fresh, fruity and tasty? Hold your breath everyone -- Fausto and Marc got some good shit in the works for you.

Said by: Cesar at July 11, 2006 12:44 PM

I don't really remind the re-posts... maybe we can have a 'classic v-mar' episode (the one where shes in hospital) and a classic Ronnie one (the one where Ronnie's plugging the tanning place) x

Said by: Gary C at July 11, 2006 02:02 PM

Another repost! God! I understand once in a while but please. Also the fact that people missed a show doesn't mean they need to post it again! Thats the point of the archive! To download the back catalog! Also you can get away with really old shows I guess but this one isnt even that old. If you don't have anything new, just leave it. It IS ok to leave a podcast along for a week if your busy.

Said by: Craig at July 11, 2006 06:57 PM

Hey, perhaps it's a good time to remind people to buy more 'o them T-Shirts -- show them how badly you want the new podcast from them! :-)

Said by: Lucas at July 12, 2006 12:01 AM

I appreciate the reposts. And I understand their need to get away from it all. I should think that everyone else can understand that as well. Remember folks, these are guys that have lives, families, and friends, and yes... JOBS as well. They love FoF as much as you do, but even superstars need a break. :)

Besides, what about the newbies who maybe have never heard these great shows? Give them a chance to enjoy them and reap the benefits we had when they were fresh and new.

Fausto and Marc, enjoy your time off. We'll be here when you return. Love you guys.

Holy cow the gays are getting vicious

Said by: Ben from MI at July 12, 2006 07:00 AM

Craig got some sand in his vagina... that was a feisty post.

Said by: Jordan at July 12, 2006 08:37 AM

I didn't get to hear this when it originally aired...I found it fascinating but disturbingly anticlimactic when the shy private personae so in contrast with the stage prescence was revealed through the interview. Thanks for re-posting this!

Said by: Bully at July 12, 2006 11:10 PM

damn....if you don't want the archived-podcasts then don't put them into your ipod or don't let it download on itunes.
What if they just posted 'taking week off', there would be so many angry/confussed/upset comments for Fausto and Marc to take as feedback which isn't productive for the people giving us a podcast theat they have to make and pay for.

I just hope they get back to posting recent podcasts as soon as they feel they can and I wish all of the FOF crew love, be it the main boys or all the friends and guests that the feast of fools gives us the pleasure of meeting for a little bit every podcast.

ok I'm done being a bitch for today so later all you interesting people who actually comment on here.
