FOF #354 - I am Gay! - 07.27.06

Podcast
If June parades bring out the everyday gays, what does July bring out?
Celebrities, of course!

It seems everyone is coming out these days. Former N'Sync teeny bopper Lance Bass came out yesterday saying loud and proud "I am Gay." or "The allegations that I have been in a relationship with reality tv star Reichen Leihmkul are true." Either way, we're happy for him. It took him 29 years, but there are reports that he's also 35 years old. Coming out of the gay closet seems easier than coming out of the age closet. Either way, we're happy for him. Oh wait, I already said that.

On today's show, Marc and Fausto ponder Oprah and Gayle's denial and Lance and Reichens' affirmation. By the way, your favorite podcast Feast of Fools was nominated for a People's Choice Award! So make sure you help us win the GLBT gold by voting for us every day starting tomorrow. Click here to see the nomination!

Lots of chit chat on Lubbockian Texans desire to have god smile upon them, the Aussie Slang Bible, and the rocking the vote tomorrow. Get ready!

Pictured on the right is an unretouched photo of Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl at a swining party in P-Town.

The podcast that was built on Rock and Roll and things that make you go hmmmm- the Feast of Fools.

Awwww... it's about time. Hooray for Lance! Great show so far, guys. (I'm still listening to it.) Can't wait for the next episode. *hops away*

Said by: Justin the Mighty at July 27, 2006 06:45 AM

I'll be a votin' for ya.
Of course you'll win! hands down (ass up).

Put the Champagne in the fridge, I want to hear you pop your cork !

Said by: Daz at July 27, 2006 06:50 AM

I haven't listened to the show yet, but can I ask: was anyone actually surprised about Lance? I saw him interviewed outside of a reception for some Playboy magazine anniversary or something, and he didn't mention the girls in the magazine once. He kept talking about how "classy" the magazine has always been and other roundabout periphrastic speech like that. From that moment on I've just been waiting for him to come out. Now that he has, I can do nothing but congratulate him.

Said by: Milton in NYC at July 27, 2006 06:59 AM

I wasn't surprised. Naturally, I prayed that JC or Joey (and definitely not Justin) would have been the one, but Lance always seemed the likely one. The great thing is that he is avoiding the "poor me, I had to hide" game, and that is refreshing.

So, when will you guys interview him? That's a show I'll be ready to download!

Ok...I just had to say this about the photo:

Gives new meaning to the term "doggie style"...

*ducks and runs*

Said by: David at July 27, 2006 08:19 AM

Wha??? Lance is GAY??? I never saw it coming........NOT. About time one of the N'sync boys came out. Gives hope to the WORLD.

Said by: Exiled Nic at July 27, 2006 09:18 AM

Hey. What do I have to do to get a birthday shout out up in hurr? I'm turning 20 tomorrow (July 28th), and I have no plans because I need to work at the Apple Store tomorrow night. So a birthday shoutout from my FAVORITE podcast would totally brighten up my day. And if you can send any cute guys taller than 6'5" over my way, that'd be cool too. Or like, if you want to totally shut me down and forget it, I guess you could always go ahead and do that instead. :-(.

LOVE YA!

Said by: Michael: 2 Syllables at July 27, 2006 09:18 AM

Well, Michael, let me give you a big "Happy Birthday". Sucks to be working on your birthday, but hopefully you'll be scheduling at least two days off in a row for the big 2-1?

Said by: David at July 27, 2006 09:39 AM

Fausto -- Marc is right.

Like Busch or not, threatening the president of the USA is one of those things we network security weenies know to be a one of the two biggest internet taboos (the other is kiddie porn). The government IS monitoring what goes across the internet, it’s just that there is too much for them to pay attention to -- BUT if you are involved in the big two, you go to the top of the list.

By the way (for all of the fans who live for network security stuff), the government is not as watching the internet porn because of the moral issues, it’s because that is a wonderfully noisy place for evil-doers to encode and decode messages.

OK – enough of this technical crap. Let’s get back to the Gay Fun Show stuff you guys do so well.

Great show again. Looking forward to the FOF Gay Songs List. There's gonna be some red faces when we all admit to the tacky disco tracks we have hidden in our closets!!!
Lance who? N'sync didn't realy take off over here... unlike Justin! SWOON!!!

Said by: Gary at July 27, 2006 11:06 AM

It's not illegal for me to say that the current President of the United States should be not just impeached, but tried for treason in Texas.

Let Bush be held to his own standards and receive the justice and mercy he's shown to others.

I'd love for anyone to say that I can't excercise my right as a citizen to say I think that the public trust has been abused and sold out by the current administration and that they lose sleep at night considering the fact that the American public is waking up and going to boot them out.

Isn't it odd that so many people (including myself)feel uneasy about saying anything negative about the President that could have his goons knocking on your door and throwing you in Guantanamo?

What really scares me is how the future of the internet has been sold out to the telecom companies wholesale, which inevitably will silence most voices (conservative, liberal, and all shades of political discussion). Enjoy the internet while you still have it folks!

By the way, I havent seen any recommendations for "songs that make your iPod go gay!"

Said by: Fausto at July 27, 2006 01:45 PM

For some reason I find Lance way hotter than Reichen. He looks like such an asshole and is probably dating Lance for publicity.

Said by: George at July 27, 2006 02:29 PM

Oh, we do it here do we? Ok, well I guess the first truly gay song I ever heard falls in to the first list " Gay male singer/songwriters"
"You Tattooed Me" from openly gay singer Tom Robinsons 1986 album, "Still Loving You" Its quite a mellow song, but it meant so much to me back then when I was in the closet. It tells the story of a passionate gay love affair in the 1950's. Lyrics are here
http://www.tomrobinson.com/records/albums/sly.htm#Tattoo
Another great song that I would imagine rings true to many gay men is "Stranger In This World" inc' the lines "You always knew didn't you Mother
You always knew as mothers always do
You always knew didn't you Mother
I was a stranger in this world"

hey marc and fausto, another great show. kudos to you fausto for standing up for your right as an american to voice your opinion. george bush is a public servant and as such, an employee of ours. and, just like all employees in the real world who lie and perform their duties poorly should therefore, be fired.

also, if reichen lehmkuhl and i were playing "hide the salami", i too would hold a press conference to let everyone know about it! he is one hot man.

take care,

jack

Said by: jack in nyc at July 27, 2006 03:03 PM

Go Lance. Hooray for him. I still don't understand why Reichen finds Lance attractive, but good for both of them. If they're in a "stable relationship" (good luck with that, boys) then the world should just be happy for them.

...

And make fun of Lance, mercilessly.

Said by: Andrew at July 27, 2006 04:12 PM

A note on scalping:

My friends and I were searching our names on wikipedia to see what we could find. most of my friends found a fun and interesting family name history... however the only result for "Hochstetler" was ... "The Hochstetler Massacre" back in the settler days.

Apparently us Hochstetlers are known for our prime scalping heads

Said by: Jordan at July 27, 2006 06:14 PM

oops.. I meant to post this along with that:

"The Hochstetler Massacre occurred on September 19th, 1757, near Fort Northkill, Pennsylvania. Eight to ten Native Americans attacked a community of Amish and burnt their house down. The wife of Jacob Hochstetler was stabbed in the heart with a butcher knife and a teenage son Jacob and infant daughter were tomahawked. Jacob Hochstetler and his sons Joseph and Christian were taken prisoner. They lived for a while among the tribe before escaping."

Said by: Jordan at July 27, 2006 06:16 PM

I had an ancestor that was held by the Iroquois for seven years and then they killed her. Talk about seven year itch!

Said by: Marc at July 28, 2006 02:23 AM

Fausto,

Hear, hear!

Like you, I am sick of people saying we do not have the right to criticize our government. Petitioning for a redress of grievances is one of the FIVE rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, and it is one that is under attack at the moment.

The American people need to look past the smoke and mirrors and see that we are in grave danger of becoming a totalitarian state if some checks and balances are not restored.

Said by: David at July 28, 2006 10:43 AM

Be as badass as you want. you got no FCC on your ass and do as you please. besides you threatening people makes me giggle because i then bvisualise you trying to beat him up and the 'secret' service men bring the smackdown onto you...i dunno why.

Said by: Rochelle at July 30, 2006 07:28 PM

Hey... nobody even commented on this, but I was so glad to hear George Grant again! I was just thinking the other day "Whatever happened to George Grant and his velvety voice?" And now here he is. Yay. :)
