FOF #350 - Get Your Gay Games On! - 07.21.06

Podcast
Amidst the majestic trumpet musak,
tens of thousands of gay and lesbian athletes and their fans are gathering in Chicago for the Gay Games VI, a complex sporting event that embraces homosexuality and people from all walks of life.

On today's show our in-house resident Gay Gamin' triathlete César Torres joins me to reminisce on the Gay Games opening ceremony last weekend at Solider Field that brought in a huge range of performers from tacky and wacky to loud and proud.

My good friend Jason Smith joined me as I walked around the ceremonies talking to athletes from around the world like Ricardo from Argentina, Hermie from the Philippines, Chari from New York City, Rita from Arizona and Donna and her girlfriend Gina from Brooklyn.

Photographed here on the right by Jason Smith is your blue pal sporting an ACTUAL Gay Games medal from the 1994 Gay Games in New York City. Don't ask me what I had to do to win it.

Click here for photos by Jason Smith and Fausto Fernós of the Gay Games VI Opening Ceremony.

The podcast that tests positive for HILARIOUSNESS- the Feast of Fools.

Yay! Badmington. Hehehehehe

Said by: Jason at July 21, 2006 07:28 AM

LOL Badmington. Those guys from Sri Lanka hardly understood what Fausto was saying. But then again sometimes I don't either.

Said by: Curt at July 21, 2006 09:44 AM

Fausto and César, it was FUN hearing you guys today! I loved the clips from the gay games - Fausto, you were able to get these people to say really creative, entertaining things. Re Charitín Goyco, the singer, is Dominican. I think she married a Puerto Rican at some point and that's why she was in PR...

Oh! So that's why he took her name as well... thanks for explaining that mami!

Said by: Fausto at July 21, 2006 03:53 PM

oh and the ma nfrom South Africa sounds uberhot. love that accent.

Badmington! He is not my partner!

That Sri Lankan guy was somewhat uptight, or is that just me?

Said by: Ben from MI at July 21, 2006 10:18 PM

He was a little formal for my taste, but you must understand he was a gentleman in every sense of the word

Said by: Fausto at July 22, 2006 02:13 AM

Remember that just like India, Sri Lanka (formally Ceylon), was 'conquered' - nay imperialized - by the Brits of the 19th- early 20th-century, so they still exude that Victorian Age formality and very witty speech, which I find delightful and delicious. It's like having a that era come alive but this time with a twirly accent. Badmington is a perfect activity for them. Their old-world graciousness and courtesy is now literally paying off big time in the global economy.

Great highlights of the Gay Games! I was at the Games in Sydney, Austraila, and your show brought back found memories of all the HOTTIES downunder.

Said by: Mike Hunt at July 22, 2006 10:46 AM

Is it wrong for me to say the 'happy moan' was the highlight of the show?

Said by: Georg at July 22, 2006 11:01 AM

By far one of the funniest episodes I've listened to in quite a while. I don not, however, recommend listening to this podcast on your laptop at 2am with your parents sleeping down the hall. I almost chocked trying to keep in my laughter when Fausto did his "happy moan."

Said by: Bethany at July 22, 2006 12:12 PM

Hey, loved this show! It's been a while since I've commented, but thought I'd begin again with such a great podcast! Ooh, can't wait for Spiderhouse on 08/18!

Said by: Brandon at July 22, 2006 12:14 PM

I can't wait to see you too Brandon! Good times.

Said by: Fausto at July 22, 2006 01:10 PM

Great show guys (still love your pieating joke Fausto!). But must admit I was a bit disappointed that it was Savage Garden lead singer and not Soundgarden's hot ditto Chris Cornell who came out. But that would have been more of a surprise really :)

Said by: Anders at July 23, 2006 03:25 PM

Fantastic show Fausto!

Awwwh! I really wish I was there. Thanks you for the shout!

Can't believe you interviewed Hermi!
I know that guy. He might originate from the Philipines but he's a Sydney Girl now...

The Sri Lankan Guys were brilliant!

Said by: Jackson at July 24, 2006 02:22 AM

After getting to the games late, César appeared in Time Out magazine but not the gay version, rather, the one addresses children who are in trouble.

Said by: Mike (DMCEx) at July 24, 2006 12:04 PM

You guys were talking about Lance Bass a few days back...well, I read on QueerClick that several reliable news sources claim that he has come out AND announced he is in a stable relationship with Reichen Lehmkuhl (who has an amazing body and hot face, but lackluster package...mine is much better).

Said by: O at July 26, 2006 11:03 PM

Lackluster? Can you send us a picture of yours?

Said by: Fausto at July 27, 2006 02:53 AM

ohhh I loved the Indian guy... I loved his accent. Very very cute.

Said by: Kaitlyn at October 5, 2006 07:52 AM
