Love the show, especially talking about the slave labor in China and things. I was curious if you guys knew much about what is going on in the Northern Mariana Islands? I know it doesn't get much coverage, especially since the Jack Abermoff and Ken DeLay scandel has died down.

In case you, or the other listeners don't know...The Norther Mariana Islands are a commonwealth of the US and right now they make women in China pay them 6,000-8,0000 dollars and tell them they will get them jobs in the US, they fly the short trip to Sipan and now they are in debt and forced to work in factories for substandard wages and very poor working conditions, most women are also forced into prostitution and if they get pregnant are forced to have abortions because they aren't allowed to have children. This is all horrible, but what is also just as bad the products made by this, essentially slave labor, is stamped with "Made in the USA" labels, which we usually take to mean they are made in the USA and under the usual standards and practices, which is not the case. Congress has been trying to pass bills to get these women living wages and safer working conditions, but it always fails, mostly because of Ken DeLay, and while he is gone, I'm sure his influence is not.

What really sickens me is that this is not gathering much news, Ms Magazine did an article about it and, as previously stated, there was mention during the scandel with Abermoff and Delay but it quickly died down. Just wanting to spread awareness in hopes that people will right to their senators and congressman/women to try to put an end to something that is further besmirching the US name.

We constantly talk about the horrible things going on over seas, but this is a country under US control and we do nothing...how can we fight other countries that do this and not take care of people that should be under our protection?

I think John Paulus is looking to extend his 15 minutes of fame. You might remember the sordid outing of American Idol finalist Clay Aiken last year. Paulus told The National Enquirer that he had a one-night stand with the Tar Heel singer.

The former Green Beret's story was that he met Aiken at a hotel in North Carolina, after Aiken chatted him up online and asked him to be his "discreet bf (boyfriend)." Paulus allegedly saved a washrag with Clay's, ahem, DNA on it as proof of the encounter. And now he's sorry about it all. (MSNBC):
"I regret defying the trust of Clay;" Paulus writes on his blog. "I regret hurting him, his family and his fans; I regret that I started a blog that ridiculed him. ... I apologize to Clay for that and I hope he will accept." Aiken’s rep didn’t return The Scoop’s calls for comment.

Paulus also claims that in a "very callow and selfish moment" he passed along the story to the National Enquirer, then changed his mind and tried to get the tab to kill it, and even took legal measures to stop it, sending a cease-and-desist letter to the Enquirer. That’s not quite the way the editors at the tab remember it. “Our reporter couldn't get him off the phone," National Enquirer editor David Perel told The Scoop.

They have reasonable rates, and they do not charge for bandwidth or extra traffic. Plus, you could keep the feastoffools.net site and just redirect your RSS feed to LibSyn. I've been using them for my podcast, and I am happy with their level of service.

If you ever want to go to the magic hedge (in the daylight! for birdwatching, not looking for other things - ha!), we love to birdwatch there. My dad is a serious birder, so I grew up being dragged around town to see sandhill cranes or owls nesting in owl boxes... Nevertheless, I am awful at identifying birds. Kate's favorite IL bird is the red-winged blackbird, and mine is the cardinal. But my favorite all-time bird is the black-capped chickadee -- the cheeky little fluffball.
