FOF #322 - Rapadura - 06.05.06

Rapadura is a commercial brand name of organic dried sugar cane juice. It's unfiltered, raw and sweet but with bitter-like savory overtones- much like this podcast!
Rapadura is also the Portuguese name for the dried up sugar cane jucie in a brick-shape that is made for easier transort, and sometimes sold as candy. We like the name, and we like its taste. You can usually find it on your local organic grocer shelves as Sucanat.
If you've never had the pleasure of trying out some unprocessed sugar cane juice or Sucanat Sugar in your tea or lemondae, we REALLY think you are in for a world of flavor. The molasses like deliciousness is waiting for you at your local organic grocer (better yet, order it though us by clicking here!) This stuff makes Sugar in the Raw taste as artificial as Sweet N' Low. We also like saying the name: "Rapadura."
On today's show my good Mexican-American gal-pal César Torres joins me to talk about trainging for the Triathalon in the Gay Games this July, healthy eating, Pres. George Bush's inevitable demise and how sometimes the process of discovery can sometimes mean the process of destruction.

César, I hate Tom Cruise too! For the same reasons! Good luck with the Gay games! I'll be rooting for you here in Austin! Come with Fausto to the meet-n-greet here and then you can say you know Texas! Un abrazo, Patricia

Patricia, I would love to go to Texas for the meet 'n greet! Thanks for the support on the triathlon! Fausto will have to make gallons and gallons of Arnold Palmers with Rapadura for all the fans. You and I can enjoy its delicious cooling effect while we enjoy the Austin heat.

On the subject of Kim Carnes' voice, it was revealed at a concert that before she performs, she and her fellow performers down a drink made of four different (and undisclosed) liquors. She says it coats the throat, and puts her in a "really nice mood for performing". It works, because she is the nicest, sweetest, coolest person in concert, and she is totally fabulous.

I'm making iced tea as soon as I get home....you two made it sound so good. Fun show....I hate Tom Cruise for the same reasons, also. I can't even stand to see any of his movies now...his personality shines through too much. Yuck.
When can we get Quarter Turns tees?
Said by: john s at June 5, 2006 01:42 PM
I like toast. :)

Can you guys post the iced tea recipe on the page, please? I used to mix iced tea with Minute Maid lemonade, and loved the taste, so this really sounded yummy!

Bush is seriously ticking me off with the whole amendment thing, it hasn't a prayer of passing, so why even introduce it? It just wastes the senate and tax payers time and money. Also more and more people are coming out in favor of gay marriage and the base he had is dwindling anyway, so this is going to do very little for his approval rating. Even Laura is in favor of civil unions...*sighs* this whole issue gets me very hot under the collar. Why not just call the amendment what it truly is the HATE AMENDMENT.
But as always you make me laugh and this was a great show and made me smile. Love ya'll and Cesar is adorable!

My girlfriend and I just got married on Saturday! WOO HOO!!! Take that, George Bush. And my parents were both there and they actually enjoyed themselves, making two new converts to the pro-gay marriage side.
And now I have 3 FOF's to catch up on, making it possible for me to make it through the workday. THANK YOU! What would we do without you??
p.s. Cesar is wonderful, please bring him back for future installments...
p.p.s. Everybody should go to this link and tell Sen. Bill Frist and his Hate Amendment to go to hell:

Maia,
Congrats on getting married. Glad you are spending your honeymoon with us! I say if you want to get married just get married, the more of us that do this the better. Don't wait, tie the knot now! We need to show them that the world isn't going to fall apart just because two people with the same sex organs are married.
Also-
You can get a Quarter Turns TShirt here:

Maia, what's your partner's name?
Said by: Fausto at June 6, 2006 09:47 AM
My beautiful partner's name is Kate. Wish I knew how to put a photo up on the comment page... I will add one of our wedding photos to the Frappr map!
And the good news is, we have some funds left in our wedding account, so I'll be sending in a contribution to you guys. Long live the FOF!!!
If anyone is looking for a place to get married --
We had the ceremony here in Chicago, at our socially progressive episcopal church at the corner of Wilson & Hermitage, right in our neighborhood. If anyone is looking for a gay-friendly church that is all about social activism, not about feeling self-righteous, I would recommend it. (It took us a while to find a cool church, so I thought I'd share, just in case this helps anyone else!) allsaintschicago(dot)org
Happy marrying -- we'd do it again if we could, but I guess no one would come the second time... ;)
