FOF #311 - Homopalooza - 05.17.06

Musician Scott Free decided many years ago that there weren't enough venues or events for openly gay musicians to perform at, so after seeing one too many Feast of Fools shows, he decided to put on a queer music festival to celebrate some of the best GLBTQ musicians out there.
In many ways Scott Free's fabulous jazz show with drag queen Vaginal Creme Davis was an impetus for us here in Chicago to develop the very first Feast of Fools show nine years ago.
Today, the Old Town School of Folk music is proud to celebrate one of the most electric, diverse nights of it's programming with Scott Free's hand-picked festival of gay and lesbian musical delights- the Alt Q Music Festival. And no, it has nothing to do with typing or computer programming.
In years past the festival has attracted some of the heavy guns of queer music like Jil Sobule, Dylan Rice with STYX's Chuck Panozzo, Phranc, Ferron, Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü and even Bitch and Animal back when they were together.
Today Scott brings over the cute and delightful young lesbi-lovely Carrie Lydon and Kate Rickenbacker to play their brand new song "A Better Life", which they will be playing in person this weekend at the show with Toshi Reagon, Erin McKeown, The Prince Myshkins and Brady Earnhart.
Come to the show! We'll be there in the front row taking pictures of the event, interviewing folks for the podcast. Will you be there?

Fun show M&F!
I actually got a double dose this morning because I had to reload yesterday's "twighlight zone" repeat.
One brief comment on yesterday's show- As pup Don mentioned, I DID take my mom to a leather bar in Long Beach for a leather contest. She was an instant smash with all the leather crowd as they all came over to thank her for her support of me and of the community. They were also proud she wasn't afraid to accept people for who they were and what they do in their love lives. I have to admit, my mom is a pretty hip chick, especially when she makes you put on a Leather fashion show when she visits... Oy!
By the way, how about Chykes for the 'chicken dykes'? You can pronounce it like chicks, but with a "Y"... Good grief, what a man thinks when he's wearing a tie to work!
Kisses-n-kink!

P.S.- Finally got a MySpace account! Feel free to join in... It will get better with time!

I liked all the guests and I hope I hear from them all soon, by making it 'big'. lots of love for the gang of FOF and all the fans.

Great show guys! I think "Mouth Full og Dick" is the perfect Gay (Male) wedding song.
I had a paranoid moment last night because FOF.Net was down (according to my provider) and I was wondering if it was the Republicans, the NSA or the various phone companies that were putting the stopper on your web site. But then it came back and the was happiness all around.
