Weekend Movie: We Can Work it Out

I hope you guys have caught this lovely gem of a retro movie.

From what people are saying, it's Cher, Tina Turner and "some old lady" (otherwise known as Kate Smith) singing a horrific medley of Beatles tunes, recalling a simpler era when song licensing was cheaper and easier. Is that Earth, Wind and Fire as the marching band at the end? And Tim Conway also makes an terribly unfunny appearance, who's as hilarious as a heart attack.

Don't get me wrong, we all over here at the FOF compound love, love, love this video! We can't stop trying to imitate it. I love how Kate Smith seems so out of place, how they are all singing the same notes (these women CAN sing in harmony, so why didn't they?)

According to one Cher website, this segment was taped almost 31 years ago to this date on April 27, 1975.

You can't fool me. I know that's really Leslie Hall, having gone back in time with her gem sweater powered time machine, to do a duet with Cher and Tina Turner.

The best thing about that clip is the tags underneath the video player...

"CHER, TINA, TURNER, 70'S, GAY, ICON, QUEER, HOMOSEXUAL, BOYS"

Apparently, anyone can find this video if they happen to be searching for Homosexual gay boys who are queer and are fans of 70's icons Cher and Tina Turner.

That's the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw Kate Smith come on stage-Leslie Hall! Leslie needs to definitely try that hairdo.

I am so glad you told us that is Kate Smith, I was wondering who the Drag Queen was. LOL

I watched this about 10 times last week....I absolutely love....it's so fucking crazy. If FOF ever does a live show again, something like this needs to be a part of it.

I think Kate Smith looks like Dame Edna!

You guys must do a recreation of this medly with V-Mar as Cher, Miss Ronnie as Tina Turner and Marc as Kate Smith.

When ever I hear Kate Smith it reminds me of going to Merrimac Caverns in Missouri and listening to a recording of Kate Smith singing Good Bless America while they splash tacky red, white and blue lights against various rock formation. This was the defining moment that transformed myself into a drag queen for life.

You should check out the The Kate Smith Commemorative Society to see some better images of Kate Smith:

Kate Smith was 68 years old when that Cher and Tina segment was taped. GASP!

She died 12 years later. :(

God bless Kate Smith.

Man, I think I've been hanging out in the gay podcast neighborhood too long -- I could have sworne Kate Smith is really a drag queen. She has nothing on Lady Bunny.

Now that would be good -- a Beatles tribute by Lady Bunny. Hmmmmmm.....

What I find funny is that Cher and Tina are barely wearing any clothes and Kate Smith is practically wearing a burka.
