FOF #279 - Gay For Play - 03.31.06

The world's most beautiful woman (on the internet) Victoria Lamarr joins us today to talk about the personal costs of being out and gay in any profession, but especially in showbusiness.
There are some folks who've done better because of the fact they are putting themselves "OUT" there (like us), but there are other entertainers who feel like their whole careers would come crashing down around them if they ever admittied their true feelings in public. Anyone come to mind? Two words: "quarter turns."
Some talk about how we couldnt remember Chris Klucsarits's name (he's the professional wrestler known as Chris Kanyon that recently came out as gay). You can read his ALL CAPITAL LETTER HEADLINE BLOG ON MYSPACE BY CLICKING HERE. I HOPE YOU ENJOY READING IT. HE IS GOOD AND FABULOUS AND COURAGEOUS AND WE HOPE HE DOES REALLY WELL. SINCE EVERYTHING HE SAYS IS IMPORTANT, EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE IN LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS.
Marc and Fausto tell Vmarr and the listener about their little excursion in downtown Chicago today. Marc found himself trying to reach Fausto at another store and the quickest way to get there was through the quad at The Moody Bible Institute. The experience of seeing these well scrubbed young men on the first nice day of spring prompts one to ask the eternal question, "Are they Christian or Gay?" We are pretty sure that we were being cruised or maybe they were just eyeing us up to save our soul. Either way it was still sexy.
In this fast paced show we discuss President Clinton's call for mandatory HIV testing in countries that have high rates of infection(twenty-seven percent in the country of Lesotho). We talk about a Muslim man that accidentally divorced his wife while he was asleep! We read some touching and delightful letters from listeners. We even have some time to do some shout outs-were you one of them?
The podcast that sometimes adheres to the rules of thermodynamics- the Feast of Fools.
The Feast of Fools is coming to NYC! Thursday April 13th 7pm at the Starlight Lounge in the Village, NYC. Chip any amount of money you have in your coin jar by clicking here. Kudos to Chris for coming out. I do have to say that his term "legitimate homosexual" brought me to chuckle, and it begged the question of whether or not there is such a thing as an "illegitimate homosexual". Pro wrestling has dealt with gay characters and storylines at various levels of the sport, but mostly at the local/regional one. I think most wrestlers have less of a problem with it than the owners of the wrestling franchises. After all, former wrestler The Rock played a gay character in "Be Cool", and he made absolutely no apologies or excuses. Fans' reactions to this revelation may be worth watching.

I haven't listened to this one yet... but... The Rock played gay? Really?
Hot.

I loved todays episode. But who am I kidding, I could never dislike anything to do with Vmarr and Marc...... and Fausto too.
My close friend has worked at Hollister for about a year. They are owned by the same company that ownes Ambercrombie. My friend is Salvadorian but could probably pass for Italian or some sort of more Caucasian decent thingy... Anyways, he was in the managers office one day and noticed a sign that disturbed him. It was a sign posted on the wall next to the manager desk. It read something along the lines of :
ATTN: All Managers
RE: Orientations
(Some stuff that I cant remember)
Make the orientations APPEAR diverse.
----------
WTF? Make them appear diverse? So, let people of color beleive they might potentially have a job during the orientation then don't hire them?
So frusterating. He gets paid about $7 dollars an hour. If that.

If nothing else, today's show really showed where you guys' comic faults lie. Bruce's timing was flawless. You guys were so busy being undisciplined and "wacky" that you blew several good opportunities to be really funny. That's what pisses me off about the show: You have plenty of enthusiasm, but no discipline. You're so busy trying to get to the funny part that you screw up the set up.
And, Fausto, learn to pronounce peoples' names. If you really like Jake Gyllenhaal, learn to pronounce his name properly. It's not Gill-en-hall, it's Jill-en-hall. And Gaye Adegbalola's name is A-DEG-ba-LO-la, not A-BEG-da-lo-la.
Sound the mother-fucking word out if you have to, otherwise you sound like ignorant trailer trash playing radio announcer. While there are those who claim that that's the appeal of podcasting, I'm not one of them. You get so many other parts of your show right, you may as well get the easy stuff like pronunciation.
And, a word to the wise: IML is not International Male Leather, it's International Mister Leather.
And since you have such a strong hatred for gay events, like IML and the Gay Games, I hope you'll have the class to stay far away from them. Vapid kneejerk criticism of the kind you dish out so liberally doesn't really add much to the show, and it certainly doesn't do anything for the gay community. Like my mama said, "Opinions are like assholes: everybody has one, and nobody thinks theirs stinks."

Anton! --- I dont hate the gay games or IML. If I REALLY did hate them, I wouldnt talk about them at all or go in person to cover the events. The organizers of these events appreciate and love our commentary and our discussions on the concepts behind the events, and you come across sounding irrationally angry for my honest commentary about these events/phenomena.
I personally know a lot of the organizers from both IML and the Gay Games, and they always welcome our in-depth coverage, irreverent humor and personal touch. It is free advertising for them.
Both IML and the Gay Games are events that are BEGGING for some sort of satire, begging to be made fun of. Have you lost the ability to laugh at yourself and at the world around you?
A lot of people make the mistake of calling IML International Male Leather, including the participants and the organizers of the events. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone mispronounced Felion, Fernos, Fausto or even called the Feast of Fools some other name. How many people call podcasting "ipodding" or "pod"? I hope you're telling them off too.
We've never heard from you or ever seen you comment on the site, so at least I'm glad that my pronounciation mistakes have inspired you to speak your mind on the site. Please comment more often and if you have positive feedback, we also want to hear that too.
But on the other hand, go f*** yourself.
