FOF #275 - Music Spotlight - 03.27.06

Homeys, grab your iPods and lets get kickin'! Today's show features some of the most fabulous queer music you wont hear anywhere else, on the radio or any other podcast. How DO these gems get past the radar of the music industry?
Our in-house music-diva Gregg Shapiro comes over with a stack of fabulous CD's and plays for you, our fabulous listener some great indie music for you to shake your bon-bon.
Pictured on the right is New York City piano siren Rachael Sage who graces the first two tracks we're showcasing for you today. She's delicious, lovely and she's going to be at Schubas' in Chicago on April 1st!
These artists have been generous to grant us license to play this music for you, so please support independent music and buy their music! Not out of pity, but because we play stuff we like and hope you'll like it too.
I wanna rock and roll all night and podcast every day with the Feast of Fools.

Hey Guys!
Great show! You really managed to turn a crappy week for you into a hilariouse show for us, the listeners. Hope your mood gets better, at least when you finally get to New York, where unfortunately I won't be able to see you. Too far, too expensive! But anyways I wanted to thank you for recommending Christopher Dallman's Album Race the Light! It's really terrific! Keep up your fabulouse work!
Love you all!

Great music guys, but these artists really need to get their act together and get their stuff over to better distribution channels (i.e. iTunes, Amazon, etc...)
I went ahead and ordered Rachels CD from Amazon. She's so pretty and her music does sound great. Are you going to have Rachel on your show in the future?

Hearing great music like this only reinforces my point that the music industry is sooo out of touch with what's good out there.
The question I gotta ask is: when will Fausto record us a few tracks? You've got a great voice, with or without accompaniment, and it would be great to hear you take on some songs.

From what I understand, crazy contract demands like "bowl of M&M's with the [color] ones removed" are a way to easily guage how well a venue read the contract.
If you walk into the dressing room and see that there is a bowl of fancy M&M's, you know they thoroughly read the contract for your performance and everything should go smoothly. If they aren't there and they didn't call you beforehand asking "do you really need to have a bowl of M&M's with the [color] ones removed?" then you know they didn't read the contract thoroughly and can walk out before something bad happens.
If they didn't read the contract or disregarded parts of it... the venue will probably try and pull a "what!? that's a crazy request" with more reasonable line-items (like: wire up this type of sound system, have this ready by 4:00, get this and this and this inspected)

Oh my god Psyton! Thats great information. I always assume since it was Beyonce, that she wouldnt need to worry about these things, but I guess we all do, no matter at what level you're at in your career.
I think I might start doing that at future gigs too...

"Blowing your own horn," huh? Ever seen Clerks? They have a whole conversation about a guy that tried that (with some sad circumstances).
Anyway, back to stupid Bio work. EEW.

I would definitely seek some legal advice before skipping out on a performance because of some unwanted M&Ms. While both represent a breach of contract, using a green M&M as a defense would likely NOT survive the "reasonable person" standard. Food allergies or facility/equipment safety concerns would be reasonable, and failure to perform on these could be a more solid reason to refuse to perform.
Disclaimer: I am not qualified to give legal advice; I am qualified to give my opinion. LOL

>Food allergies or facility/equipment >safety concerns would be reasonable, >and failure to perform on these could >be a more solid reason to refuse to >perform.
Ok, I totally butchered the meaning of this sentence, using both the legal and more common meanings of "perform".
What I meant to say is that if a performer specified that certain foods were not to be served due to a food allergy, and the venue staff served them anyway, it would be a better defense in a breach of contract case.
As far as requiring certain inspections to be done beforehand, that can get sticky if those inspections are not routine or required by the jurisdiction in which the venue exists, and the cost could be prohibitive. Hopefully, the venue management would not even enter into a contract with this performer and avoid the mess altogether.

Hi Guys,
Love your show like mad. Have just listened to this show (I'm way behind - went to work in France for 2 weeks and I can't seem to catch up) anyway I loved the sound of Rachael Sage and checked her out on itumes here in UK where she is available. So presumably she is on US itunes as well. Don't know if you read these comments from shows so far in the past but I thought I'd let you know. Love you guys (I'm saving for the t-shirt and losing weight for the map)
