FOF #249 - The Porn Star Mystique - 02.17.06

Podcast
The reason a lot of gay men become porn stars
says our good friend Owen Keehnan is because of the notoriety of being labeled as such. It's certainly not because of the money or the sex, of which being a working porn actor provides very little.

On today's show we talk to "Starz" writer Owen Keenhan, IN THE HOUSE!!, about his new book, porn stars, his interview process, and what motivated him to write a book about the mind of the men who make the gay pornography so many of you, our listeners, consume.

Go get this wonderful book right now on Amazon here.

Great Episode. I thought i recognized Owen and it must be from all those years shopping at unabridged books.

Can you ask him if they have signed copies available there? Not that I don't want you to get the commissions(lol) but my iTunes bill should make up the difference.

Ok...I actually spit my water out when Fausto said the Chambord bottle looked like something for the "Infant of Prague"...I don't know why but that really struck me! My grandmother had a huge one in her house that she changed the coats on for every holy holiday!

Great show and I'll be sure to pick up a copy of the book. Perfect gift for my roommate and it's always nice to support local talent. I knew I recognized Owen too. I use to work at Specialty Video down the street from Unabridged.

To be fair, that "Infant of Prauge" joke was made by Marc before taping. I just wanted to make sure it went through. Give the props to my lovely lover Marc!!

As far as I know, Unabridged might have some, I would call them and ask.

Keith,
Growing up, my friend's family had one. They had an alcove specially built for it as you walked in the front door. They had all sorts of different outfits for it as well. Here are some images of the "Infant of Prague"
http://images.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en&q=infant%20of%20prague&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Well props to Marc then for the IOP joke..

It's like some Catholic Barbie with all the outfits..Purple for lent..gold for whatever.

My grandmother had a glass box built
with a mirror bottom to keep it from getting dusty. It's like some sort of hexagonal aquarium without the water.

Although an Infant of Prague with a bubbling scuba diver bobbing up and down next to it and some plastic plants would be cooler.

Now I get to see it every time I go home to visit my parents, it resides in their guest room...creepy!

My grandma had one of those IOFs in her dining room....I don't remember any extra outfits. I just remember I wasn't aloud to touch it (oh boy, did I want to).

fun show...have a great weekend

Another smart, funny, sexy and handsome guest -- how do you all do it? Thanks for great show...

Hey, you queers! Please lighten up on the IOP weirdness! Yo mamas and grandmamas were just getting close to "GOD" with their sweet little figures; it's a way of saying 'thank you, Jesus for the innocence, kindness and protection you give out to little ole me so I can deal with this big, mean ole world.' What's spooky about that? Dressing him up - fabulous! Maybe that's why YOU like to put on YOUR fancy shmancy, colorful coats - just check out Fausto's wonderful blue (of course) denim western jacket at the FOF bd party! LUV from HIS mama, Patricia

Since when have you ever liked the Infant of Prauge mom? Come on...

What Mami REALLY likes is images/doll/symbols of the madonna (not the material girl) and children.

She loves: Mary Stevenson Cassatt's work, all those famous impressionist paintings of mothers and their kids.

Patricia has a BIG thing for Mom-Child images. Weird catholic barbie dolls? Nope.

So anyone who has any good websites for her to look at should email her (or us)- it would make her really happy.

I listened to your podcast for the first time yesterday, it was the episode with Mizundastood. I have to say that honestly, it was the best radio show I ever heard. Now if I wanted current events, I'd download NPR but I wanted something fun, campy, but maybe a hint or realism and you guys nailed it. You have great personalities, a great banter going on, and I felt like I was part of a real conversation with friends I had known for years. Very REAL! Very COOL! I REALLY think you guys could land a radio spot on any major station in any city. Keep up the amazing work!
