FOFA #153 - Put a Tiger in Your Tank - 11.30.05

Podcast
Equally sexy as the models to our right, our caramel-voiced European correspondent George Grant
literally dropped from the sky and into our hearts, minds, and other parts of our bodies.

Probably the sexiest person involved with the Feast of Fools, listen to George Grant on this vintage episode as he reports on fashion trends that will inevitably affect us all (well "us" meaning gay white men, the rest of you are safe). Baseball caps as code, REALLY Low-Riser jeans (so low they show hair-pie) and stores so minimalist, you'd think they were simply out of inventory and furniture.

Amanda Steinstein once agains joins Marc and Fausto to talk about a German inventor who has found a way to take animals and convert them into gas. Soilent Green is People! Gasohol is Pets!

Also, Amanda shares a secret that Andrew Lloyd Webber might have suffered from cryptomnesia when he wrote the song "Memory" in the musical "Cats." She thinks the melody sounds an awful lot like the instrumental from the Mamas and the Papas' song "California Dreamin'". Coincidence? You decide.

One of my pesonal favorite shows! Originally posted on Sept. 15, 2005.

FOFA #106 - Screwy Stars and Mermaids - 11.29.05

Podcast
Our very first correspondent, John Q. Sanchez
reported from the Mermaid parade with his gal pal Val Wang back in July of this past year. If it weren't for John, we probably would never have George Grant, Miss Understood, or Amnesia Sparkles in our lives and in the show. Thanks John Q!

For this segment, John & friends including Val Wang and Brian Funk went to Brooklyn's Coney Island, for the annual Mermaid Parade, a glamorous yet rag-tag affair celebrating costumes, carnival, mermaids, sailors, creative nudity, freaks, fried food, outdoor drinking, and almost everything else.

Check out the heated leter from an angry fan, the Darwin Awards, and our trash talking about Celine Dion.

FOFA #73 - Star Warscast, Episode I - 11.28.05

Podcast
On the opening day of the last Star Wars movie that will ever be made
(according to George Lucas in an interview) Marc and Fausto went to check out the fab film and talk to the die-hard fans about the "Passion of the Zeitgeist" - why these movies have been so popular over generations, why anybody cares in 2005, and why everyone wants to wear such outlandish costumes.

These aren't just sci-fi drag queens like us folks. As you'll hear from the interviews, a lot of the die-hard Star Wars fans we interviewed for this podcast were folks from all walks of life, even Latino/Hispanic fans like me!

Check out the ending of this classic Feast of Fools podcast for the Spanish equivalents of popular Star Wars characters/slogans: R2D2 (Sounds like Arturito which literally means Little Arthur), C3PO (the letters P and O mean fart in spanish), Han Solo/Han Cholo, and other delicious jokes only me and Latin Gay divas like Amnesia Sparkles will get.

FOF #201 - When Victoria Met Victoria - 11.25.05

Podcast
Among many of our guests for our Thanksgiving dinner
were Victoria Lamarr and my 14 year old niece Victoria Morales. You can imagine the look on my niece's face when she came face-to-face with this huge crazy Drag Queen who shares the same name as her.

Actually, my family LOVED Victoria LAMARR. V-Marr shares the same self-help core values that my therapist soaked mom loves. Did you know V-Marr has had a vision quest where she discovered her animal guide was a dolphin?

Check out this short chaotic podcast taped right after our Thanksgiving dinner in the Fernós/Felion household. Marc couldn't be there because he's in Erie Pennsylvania with his Felion Family.

Podcast
Miss Understood is just one of those fabulous people who listens to our show every single day
while she's putting on her makeup to get ready to do her shows in New York City.

We adore talking to Miss U. whenever we can, so what better way to celebrate Thanksgiving today than by replaying our of our favorites shows with her. I don't know WHY it seems fitting, but it does.

We talk about in detail all the makeup techniques you'll need to be a fabulous Big Apple Drag Queen like Miss Understood.

FOFA - #65 - El Rey del Rock & Roll - 11.23.05

Podcast
Mother's Day in November?
Why not! If we can celebrate Christmas in July why not celebrate the springtime holidays in the fall when we need some warmth, sunshine and motherly love.

Originally posted on May 9, 2005, this classic Feast of Fools podcast features a backstage conversation with El Vez, the Mexican Elvis. We talked to Mr. Vez right after his Cinco de Mayo (Mexican Independence Day) show.

El Vez is just a tad more famous these days, as you can find him singing his hit song "Feliz Navidad" at Starbucks on Elton John's Christmas Party Album. ¡Felicidades El Vez!

This is the show where we met the men who's music we use as our theme song, the fabulous band known as Baby Teeth.

This is why it's so important to step out of the house every now and then, because you never know who you are going to meet and how it will profoundly affect your life for the better in the future.

We gain insight into the hearts and minds of all our regular cast of crazies. Where did we all meet? How did we come to be the people we are today?

FOF #198 - The Queen of Camp, part 1 - 11.17.05

Podcast
Charles Busch's first play, "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom," was written in-between coffee breaks while working as a temp in Manhattan.
He and his friends just HAD to put on the show. They loved what they did and were passionate about making it happen.

Today, "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" is considered one of the all-time best gay plays and camp classics. He recently won an acting award from the Sundance Film Fesitival for his starring role in "Die Mommie Die" a tribute and send-up of the female actors from the melodramatic films of Hollywood's Golden Era.

Charles has appeared in "Addams Family Values" and worked with Rosie O'Donnell on Boy George's short-lived Broadway production of "Taboo."

On today's podcast our local and lovely Chicago theater figure David Cerda, well known for playing Joan Crawford in more plays than ANY person in the history of the world, talks to his pal Charles Busch with Fausto about his carreer, his work, and being invovled in the short-lived Broadway musical Taboo.

David writes on his blog: "Surprisingly frank when it came to Taboo and the folks involved. What did he say? Well, I guess you'll just have to tune in, won't you? Charles really is great guy and is really an inspiration for me and it was so much fun dishing with him about just everything."

I feel the same way.

Stay tuned for part two of our conversation with Charles Busch tomorrow and on Monday for our special SUPER-SIZED 200 show!

FOF #197 - Fun with AIDS - 11.16.05

Podcast
AIDS is one of those few four-capital-letter worded diseases that puts everyone on the edge of their seats,
like MRSA, SARS, or SIDS.

You really have to give it up to the creative person who came up with the acronym for AIDS! Do you guys have a good acronym the CDC can use for the Bird Flu? How about BUFFY (Bird Universal Flu from the Yangtze)? PAIDS (Pandemic Avian Influenza Disease Syndrome)?

On todays show Victoria Lamarr, Marc, and Fausto talk about one of their favorite topics: AIDS. The ethics of treating and having the disease, the persecution of those with it, and the paranoia surrounding this controversial topic.

Lots of talk also on horny giraffes, intersex fish, and fruity fruit flies. Pictured on the right is one of those gay fruit flies: he's on fire! Just look at that tacky purple eyeshadow and bright red lipstick.

Tomorrow David Cerda joins Fausto for a two-part interivew with NYC playwright, screenwriter and film star Charles Bush. He wrote and starred in "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" and also wrote/starred in the film adaptations of "Psycho Beach Party" and "Die Mommie Die!" Don't miss this one. On monday we have our supersized 200th show!

FOF #196 - The Quest for Fame - 11.15.05

Podcast
Ezra Austin walks around the streets of Boystown with a cheap microphone
and video camera asking the unwilling a single question: "Who is the most famous gay man in Chicago?"

This guy pounds the pavement and hustles himself in the gay parts of Chicago. He harrasses people with a camera and a microphone just to get his story. As you can see, Ezra is one of our beloved kind.

Although the question seems superficial and odd, the video that Ezra produces touches those deep needs in a lot of gay men (and a lot of other people as well) to be recognized and validated by complete strangers, even when you've done nothing at all worth meriting it.

Struggling with bills, loneliness, depression -it seems that the desire for fame can be a powerful mythical panacea, a cure-all for all your problems.

On today's podcast Marc and Fausto chat with Ezra Austin about his video, his real intentions in making the film, Alderman Tom Tunney, and who Scott Nash REALLY is.

Click on the extended entry to see the film. NOTE: The video "Who is the Most Famous Gay Man in Chicago" is NOT part of our RSS feed inside of iTunes, and you can only watch it by clicking on the website's extended entry.

FOF #195 - Dim Sum Brunch - 11.14.05

Podcast
Today's show begins with an annoying song that Fausto wrote when he was 12 years old to annoy his younger sister.
"Wake Up" is based on Robert Schumann's the "Happy Farmer" -it's one of those songs that kids learn when they take piano lessons.

On today's Feast of Fools Marc, Miss Ronnie and Fausto go out of the house to their local Chinese Dim-Sum Buffet and give Miss Ronnie a new taste-sensation: Chinese Dim Sum.

What is Dim Sum anyways? It's a meal made out of appetizers.Think of it as a Chinese Old Country Buffet that comes to you. You don't have to pick your fat ass up and go feed yourself.

Ronnie discusses her plans to beautify America, fashion advice for the heavy set and would you drink a Beaver Shot at the new Hustler Bar & Grill? Vmar survives a near death struggle at the hands of Ronnie.

FOF #193 - I Want To Be Alone - 11.10.05

Podcast
Greta Garbo may be dead,
but her image lives on in the minds of all of those who love Hollywood's black and while film era.

On today's show our NYC correspondent John Q. Sanchez & his friend Maeve go to Park Avenue for a retrospective of glamour portraits of Greta Garbo at the Scandinavian House. Chatting their way through the exhibit, they also discuss the tapeworm weight-loss program, legendary gay costume designer Adrian, Maria Callas, Jacqueline Susann, and more. A big shoutout to our Swedish listeners!

Plus, V-Marr, Ms. Ron-E, F&F and Marquitos chew the fat on computer viruses that erase music, sacreligious use of your anus, and tranny-named asteroids.

FOF #192 - Happy B-Day V-Marr - 11.09.05

Podcast
Victoria Lamarr comes over to celebrate her birthday!
Join Miss Ronnie, Fausto and Marc as we celebrate the divine Miss Lamarr. We have cake and sing and chat about what Vmarr did on birthday.

No, she did not kill the the people who live upstairs from her. They were murdered by someone else. She was busy filming one of her movies while the killings may have happened. The killer may have escaped through a fire door during the taping of her movie. The fire alarm goes off as she tapes. Well, there's something to look forward to.

We talk about crazy girl Ashlee Simpson's drunken behavior at a McDonalds' restaurant in Toronto, a lady who built a nest in which she lives, and girls boycotting (or should I say GIRL-cotting) Ambercrombie and Fitch.

FOF #191 - Austin Satisfaction - 11.08.05

Podcast
There's a whole new generation of gay men
who have a much more open view about the world. I dont know how to describe it, but I know when I see it. Brandon, the podcaster from Austin Exhaustion is one of those wonderful people you casually meet at an anti-war rally who then later become friends with you for a very long time.

On today's show, listen as Bradon and me, your flaming blue pal Fausto do a little soundseeing tour of Austin, Texas. We even went inside the SEXY Gregory Gym Locker Room on the University of Texas Campus where all the hot college jocks change to give you the sounds of lockers slamming.

We also had a delicious sushi dinner with my mom Patricia and her pan-Asian housemates Jing and Josna (please forgive me for my horrible spelling guys.)

throws a gala dinner to raise funds at the luxrious Hilton Hotel in downtown Chicago. Of course, Victoria Lamarr and I got to crash the party and we hung out with some fabulous real-life Broadway divas like Marin Mazzie, star of the current Broadway musical Passion and Kiss Me Kate.

Maron liked us SO much she invited V-Marr and myself out to her tour bus to soak in her lovely jacuzzi. Of course, recording equipment won't work around steam, so we cant tell you what happened. I don't kiss and tell.

FOF #188 - Fat, Stupid and Lazy - 11.03.05

Podcast
No, we're not talking about you.
But if the shoe fits, what are you going to do about it? New German study shows that lack of sleep makes you fat (slows down your metabolism) and stupid (loss of memory). So if you're up late listening to our show, get some sleep!

Mary Cheney and Jeff Gannon get new jobs. Liz Smith is angry at the TV again, and other folks are suing porn companies because their videos don't deliver the goods.

I completely sympanthize with people who are angry at the video screen, I just wish that the news media would be all abuzz (is abuzz a word?) about our opinion if we publicly stated we didn't like a TV show.

FOF #187 - Dia De Los Muertos - 11.02.05

Podcast
We have the post-Halloween blues.
Fausto and Marc's werewolf makeup was WAY too itchy. But poor Ronnie is suffering from stress-related due to her college Algebra class.

We said WEEKS ago that Harriet Miers was just a decoy for the real right-wing fundamentalist pig Bush wants to put in the Superme Court.

Also, did you guys know that male mice serenade their partners with ultra-sonic bird-like songs? Move over Topo Gigo. Also, if you're dead, your housecat might want to eat you up. Think about that next time Tabby licks you, she might just be 'tasting' you.
