John Q. Sanchez moved from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York, where he lives today. He's written & reported for the Chicago Reader, Time Out New York, Paper, Index, Latingirl, the Advocate, Plotz, and, back in the day, the super-seminal Chicago bar rag Babble. In the zine era, he published Fed-Up Secretary, I've Written a Letter, and Flying Buttress. He's also a contributing editor to the Web zine Blair, www.blairmag.com, which is home to the famous "Gay or Eurotrash?", and he worked with Mexican-American singing sensation Osaka Hernandez as 'Artistic' Director of her "Osaka Hernandez Salutes Selena" tour.

For this segment, John & friends including Val Wang and Brian Funk went to Brooklyn's Coney Island, for the annual Mermaid Parade, a glamorous yet rag-tag affair celebrating costumes, carnival, mermaids, sailors, creative nudity, freaks, fried food, outdoor drinking, and almost everything else. The "mermaidparade" tag was one of the most active on Flickr last week and has thousands of beautiful pictures of the event which you should check out.

Today I looked at Itunes and I see Feast of Fools and Yeast think they should be at the top of the Comedy list... FUCK THAT! Well that's cheating... I have loved BOTH of your show but now I feel like your two are just as shitty as Adam curry. You guys suck now... You have lost this listener and I will make sure that this action by the two of you will not be forgotten. Its a bad tactic and EXTREMELY SHAMEFUL. I was so hoping more from my fellow gays, but I guess its just keeps the stereo type going that all gays are self centered fags.

Plus by your selfish actions you two are hurting all the other Comedy Podcasts, HELLO... only gay people want to hear your shows and now your the first thing people see and listen to. WHAT A TURN OFF. Yah you two will be talked about... "iTunes is filled with nothing but this fucking fag shit"... And now you two will just be made fun of by the str8 world.

You guys are shit... no less than shit... you two are mold. WHATEVER... Thanks you two... your just reinforcing the gay stereo type. Its because of people like you that all gay people will loose any freedom. If everyone keeps thinking gays are flaming blue fags and bitchy cunt lesbians who like sucking cum out of asses then we have lost everything. I always wanted to be thought of as a flaming deviant fag. Maybe the psychiatric community should reconsider making being a fag a disorder. Then at least the two of you would get locked up.

Well its things like this... why Fausto will never be take seriously. And yeast your just the token gay show on podshow. If we didnt have this x mtv has-been... your show would be replaced by the Catholic Insider podcast. Yeast, im sure 99.99999999% of people turn away from your show when it comes on.

Attached is a screen shot. Im talking about you guys adding " - " to the front of your show title. This brings you up to the top of the list "-Feast of Fools-" . I really do love your show. I think your better than all the rest of the gay shows. I know how hard it is to find gay listeners especially will all the str8 stuff all over the place. But adding the "-" to the front of your title to bring you to the top of the list is just wrong. I just always though we should be held at a higher standard.

Again i like your show. Your not doing a daily blog like everyone else (boring) your really trying to entertain people. You talk about new and real subjects. You and Poose (hes a big brain in drag) are
the two top podcasters in my book.

Maybe we should all lobby itunes for a Gay & Lesbian category.

Im sorry if my letter was mean... Im sure you have over reacted from other podcasters doing shit like this and screwing others over. Well at least i maybe gave you something to talk about!

So do you guys think we should take the "-" off our feed? The only reason I did it was out of desperation that our feed is being cut into 3 chunks, and making us drop to the bottom of the charts. Adding the hyphens was an easy way of seeing how the RSS tags interacted with iTunes without deleting anything. A nice side effect was that we went to the top of any alphabetical list.

There are already new podcasts like "5 Minutes with Witchita" ".Assasins Show" and "[the john cast]" which use unusual characters to distinguis themselves. Apple's has to develop a way to ignore special characters and put things alphabetically. Otherwise OS is right: You're going to have a LOT of shows with titles like "AAAaaapodcast" and "~cast" etc...

I hope OSgroups wrote them angry emails as well, and arent attacking us JUST because we're gay and an easy target.

OSgroups is right about one thing, Apple really needs to do a Gay and Lesbian category. Even better, just visit qpodder.org and learn about the emerging queer podcasting community that came together despite all our differences!
