FOF #197 - Fun with AIDS - 11.16.05

AIDS is one of those few four-capital-letter worded diseases that puts everyone on the edge of their seats, like MRSA, SARS, or SIDS.
You really have to give it up to the creative person who came up with the acronym for AIDS! Do you guys have a good acronym the CDC can use for the Bird Flu? How about BUFFY (Bird Universal Flu from the Yangtze)? PAIDS (Pandemic Avian Influenza Disease Syndrome)?
On todays show Victoria Lamarr, Marc, and Fausto talk about one of their favorite topics: AIDS. The ethics of treating and having the disease, the persecution of those with it, and the paranoia surrounding this controversial topic.
Lots of talk also on horny giraffes, intersex fish, and fruity fruit flies. Pictured on the right is one of those gay fruit flies: he's on fire! Just look at that tacky purple eyeshadow and bright red lipstick.
Tomorrow David Cerda joins Fausto for a two-part interivew with NYC playwright, screenwriter and film star Charles Bush. He wrote and starred in "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" and also wrote/starred in the film adaptations of "Psycho Beach Party" and "Die Mommie Die!" Don't miss this one. On monday we have our supersized 200th show!

SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!
iTunes won't upload todays podcast! I try to update, but there's nothing there to update!
I'm having FOF withdrawls! I need my FOF! (insert jitters and misc. ticks here)...
AHHHHHHHRRRRGHHH!

Hello, Everybody. I just wanted to let you know that for some reason iTunes isn't seeing today's show. It's no big deal just to use the link on the webpage and save it as an mp3 -- at least it's not on the Mac. I don't know about Windows. Still.. somethin' ain't right.
Hey,by the way, while I love Miss Ronnie and enjoy the shows with her I really miss Amanda. She reminds me of a relative of mine that I've always wanted to like but I've never managed to succeed. Amanda's like my relative .... but with a Bitch-ectomy. No nastyness. Are we gonna hear her again? Soon? Please?

Sorry fellas... iTunes and our RSS arent getting along. But I've seemed to have fixed things. You should probably now have the show twice in your iTunes folder.

Hey V-Marr! Thanks for the shout out. Indeed Marc is right, I have a boyfriend - a real cutie. But you would be very welcome when we head up to Aspen for the holidays. Put on your designer ski suit and fur boots and let's hang out at 39 Degrees with a frosty martini!

iTunes picked up the first feed, and then the second feed so now I have to listen to you twice!! Double the pleasure, double the fun!

Hi Vmarr!
Thanks for the shout out! I'm glad you enjoyed the picture. I really enjoyed the show today.
Guys, I will take under consideration your suggestion to join Scientology (not really) but as far as going back into the closet. I'm afraid when I came out I blew the door off and now my closet is just a great big open hole.
Fausto, were you implying that Tom Cruise may be gay? How can that be? Next thing you know you'll be saying that Ricky Martin, Tab Hunter and Richard Simmons are gay! You silly, silly blue Fausto!

Great show today. And congratulations on the upcoming # 200! Nobody works harder at it than you guys.

Wow, thanks for the shout out! I'm definitely coming to Chicago to stalk you guys. ;-)
You know, today was a monstrously shitty day. I was on a conference call for 45 minutes where myself and our computer programming team got our balls busted.
I listen to FOF at the end of the day purposely ... because your show always makes me feel sooooo good. I am always smiling listening to you show. No other podcast makes me feel as good as you gus do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, congratulations on your 200th show. I want to be around for the 300th, 400th, 1000th.
Love you guys!
Tom
p.s. did you guys get my cape cod package?

Joel, honey, don't convert if you don't want to, and DEFINITELY don't go back in the closet! We need all the good ambassadors we can get. We have to shake off that whole Anne Heche thing...
I love V-Marr...she rocks and so does her mom.
I won't send you a picture, because you've all seen me, and it ain't pretty! Maybe in my next life when I come back as a kitty-cat (think Garfield).
Said by: Aaron at November 16, 2005 08:44 PM
One more thing...I also love Miss Ronnie! She's a straight-talking girl who tells it like it is...we need that TOO. She's smoldering, too, like a Latina Carly Simon!
(That's good!)

Aaron Smith! Don't make me come over there and slap you. I know where you live.
Folks, Aaron just feels (like so many beautiful gay men in this world) that he's just not good enough to deserve to be called "beautiful." Well I DO know Aaron and I think he's handsome, smart, funny and fabulous. And beautiful as well. And one hell of a drummer.
I personally have seen several guys ask me who the bear in the shows playing the drum is! Is this true or not Aaron? I love you Aaron!
Said by: Fausto at November 17, 2005 03:09 AM
Aaron Smith - We Aaron's have to stick together. We are all beautiful, smart, and funny. We are Aaron. We are Borg. How can you tell the "real" FoF fans from the phonies? Their name is Aaron. ;)
Love; Ciao,
Aaron Ball

Don't forget Aaron Johnson and Aaron Anderson! Did you Aarons know that if my sister Talia was born a boy she would have been named Aaron as well?
Said by: Fausto at November 17, 2005 10:50 AM
Aaron Fernos! Really! You just made me wet, Fausto!
Love; Ciao
Said by: Aaron B. at November 17, 2005 02:58 PM
Aaron Smith: Just wanted to echo Aaron Ball. Aaron Cock's got your back too! :)
Said by: Aaron C at November 17, 2005 05:25 PM
There's too many Aarons in these comments! I can't keep up with all of them! :)
Fantastic show, Fausto, Marc, and especially Victoria. Your frankness and honesty was completely moving and endearing, while being funny and insightful at the same time. I put a link to this show on my blog yesterday (I had already discussed the "HIV Miracle" boy, then listened to the show and had to add the link.) Thanks for all you do for those of us with HIV or AIDS. It's good to laugh and not feel bad about it. :)

OH and I just have to add... I will NEVER be able to look at a raw carrot the same way again. LOL :-)
Said by: RcktMan at November 17, 2005 05:53 PM
oh i was talking about #181 & #182 where it was REALLY hard to tell what was going down without a video cast or something...
i LOVED this interview tho!

To me, HIV/AIDS is just another awful disease that people can get (diabetes, cancer, etc...)
I think what makes it scary for everyone is that it is something that can kill you (and kills people without access to adequate health care) from having sex.
It seems to me that becoming positive would mean that they might never be loved or have any kind of sex again. A fate which at first seems worse than death.
You can't blame anyone for their fear or can you?
I guess the best thing to do when faced with a difficult situation like this is to talk about it, to examine it, and to laugh at it. It takes away the power it has over our psyche and dispels the myths out there. And it helps us all to heal. At least in my opinion it does.
That's part of why I love doing shows with V-Marr and my friends, is because they can look at any terrible situation and find something funny and insightful about it.
Said by: Fausto at November 18, 2005 03:47 AM
Aaron, No worries. I'm not about to give up my faith and beliefs for a more 'trendy' religion. As for going back into the closet. I don't plan too, what I do plan to do is take my 'husband' to any and all premieres!
