FOF #170 - American Idolatry - 10.10.05

Podcast
On the first season of American Idol
(the reality tv show/singing contest with Paula Abdul), New York City drag queen Amnesia Sparkles waited in line and interviewed for around 7 hours just to sing in front of Paula, Randy and Simon. She was good. Good enough to be on the DVD of the show, but not "good enough" to go to Hollywood.

It's bullshit like this that makes me want to change the channel. Okay, press "delete" on the TIVO.

Our "little drag queen that could" is none other than the brainchild of visual artist and entertainer Adrian L. Acosta, who lives in New York City and galavants around town doing a lot of the same things we do here in Chicago: interview freaky folks, sing, dance, tell jokes, keep a blog, and drink. As you can see, Adrian is our kind of gal.

On today's special TWO-PART Feast of Fools, Adrian reveals the psychic inner workings of the cosmos via astrology. Although we personally feel astrology is about as dependable as beliving in a fortune cookie, is fun to ponder the future by looking to the stars. (And by stars I mean celestial objects, not bloated actors living in California.)

We like to think of Adrian as a younger, more attractive and masculine Walter Mercado. Adrian and Fausto are both Aries. We're both Latin-American queers, and we we totally hit it off!

Also today's show is a MARTINICAST! Click on the extended entry for the "Amnesia" cocktail.

Coming soon: George Grant talks about his obsession with wind-up clocks.

On today's Martinicast:
Amnesia
We name this drink in honor of Amnesia Sparkles. Haven't we all had a little bout of amnesia after a heavy drinking session? What else offers sparkles in a drink other than champagne?

Champange
1/2 shot of top-shelf vodka
1/2 shot of Cointreau (or Orange flavored liquer)
A dash of dark Puerto Rican Rum (Fausto likes Bacardi AƱejo)

In an iced filled shaker, add the vodka, Cointreau, and rum. Shake until chilled. Pour into a chilled martini glass. Top off the drink with Champagne. Garnish with diced candied orange peel.

Thanks for having Amnesia on Fausto... I first saw her on Flickr and have been a huge fan ever since.

I'll forgive you this time for leaving me out of the famous Leo list~!

Who me? or Amnesia? Or both of us? John, you know I'm not that crazy about scat.

I may put up with a lot of bullshit, but I don't enjoy being shit on.

But then again, I DO love those dark chocolate fondue fountains! Marc says the're a pain to clean up after a wedding.

I'm going to make one of these Amnesia cocktails for my friends in Vancouver this weekend! Cheers to you Amnesia.

Here's a tip from slashdot.

To make top shelf vodka, run cheapo vodka through a Brita filter 4-5 times and you will get something equivalent to Grey Goose. You can buy a pitcher from Costco for about 30 bucks. It pays for itself quickly.

Thanks for posting a link so I could see this Walter Mercado. I had to take a look after listening today. Simply amazing! I'm also posting the first request for the Fausto/Marc video. I'm in Edgewater, so I can just stop over and pick it up.

I think we mention Mike Hipp on the second half right Fausto? How could be not? He is one Hipp Leo!

Ricky, Pisces ARE great...I mean, my mom is one...Geminis are almost your total opposite that's why you want to kill them.

I think we need more comments asking for the Fausto and Marc porn...Victoria Lamar can film it!

Thank you all MUAH! And thank you Fausto for having me on...I can't remember what we talked about in the second half though, guess we'll just have to listen...and drink some more Amnesia.

Walter Mercado has a new DVD being released (first DVD he has ever done) on March 21. Great food and drink recipes as well as how to keep that relationship sparkling. First being released in Spanish, followed by English. They are including a free Natal Chart by Walter as part of the purchase price (usually costs $99, so good deal). Walter looks better than ever. Must have a picture of Dorian Grey in his attic! More info available at http://www.waltermercadorecipes.com
