FOF #162 - The Depths of Darkness - 09.28.05

Podcast
Our lovely correspondent
and Chicago comedy legend, David Cerda (who's theater company Hell in a Handbag Productions has been nomiated for a Pressie "Best of Chicago" Award this year) comes over to talk about his company's new production The Twighlight Galllery, a collection of short plays inspired by the Twlight Zone and Night Gallery classics.

David, Marc and Fausto talk some more about Joan Crawford, gay squids, convergence, Cathy Sheehan, and kidnapping as art.

What is convergence? To biologists, that's when isolated, independent species develop identical ways of responding to a need (a bird's beak and an octpus' beak). In the art/intellectual world, convergence is when two individuals or communites develop the exact same work/idea at around the same time and it can be proven that there was no plagiarism.

Human beings respond to their world in similar ways. The beauty of the idea of convergence, is that it suggests that ALL life has similar needs and usually comes up with similar solutions.

Wished I lived in Chicago because I'd love to see "The Twilight Gallery", especially "Eyes". I saw the original episode with Miss Joan Crawford when I was a kid. I'd love to see an "interpretation" of it with David Cerda in the lead role.

david cerda=charlyne unger?

'Cleats'- Ms. Ungar is a talented and gifted artist, however, there is no comparison between the two of us.
God Bless You, Mr. Wilson

Where IS Charlene Unger? The man behind the woman, Peter Mohawk, moved to Los Angeles a couple of years ago, although he returns to Chicago from time to time. He's another comedy legend and a lovely person.

He'd be a great guest to have on the show... but we lost touch. Anyone know where to get a hold of her?

But I do think David has comedy greatness in him. And it shines all the time. But that's just my incredibly biased opinion of him. I think the world of David. If you CAN come to Chicago and catch him in the Twilight Gallery show, you won't be dissapointed.

Great show guys! I really wish I was able to catch the "Twilight Gallery", sounds very cool... Thanks for the shoutout, that was sooo nice. :) Hope you're feeling better soon Fausto! That was quite a story about the run to the loo... yikes. Aaron

Don't worry about being biased, Fausto--so am I! I'm unashamedly prejudiced towards ALL you crazy characters I've worked with and met over the last three years. I feel as though my life has just BEGUN (even though I'm quite old and dried up now--wait a minute while I take a hit from my oxygen tank--*suck*--ooh, yeah, that's good).

David, I LOVE the portrait...you even have the Claudia "hand on the chin" thing down pat!

Cuddle bum ! The Octoberfest is considered to be an institution. Fall Festival might be quite an apt name, since many people, especially men, fall to the ground because they had too much alcohol. But I suspect the name fall implies withered old ladies
drinking coffee, instead of burly men drinking themselves mindless and having a puke behind the beer tent. There is really no deeper meaning ! It´s just about getting legless.

I have been pretty hardlined about straights playing gay rolls. Now that I'm a fucking dinosaur I can see that any straight man that is willing to potray gays is risking his own Hollywood clout so they've got my vote. I saw the advocate recently and had articles of both of the guys you interviewed. Vunderbar dalink.
Hugs to M, VM and yourself baby cakes.

Love the show - another great job as usual - when you talked about the dolphins - it reminded me of an joke I heard: I heard that dolphins can be very agressive and they often sexually attack divers - well you would think that since dolphins are so smart that when they hear (put noise of dolphin here) would understand that means no!
