A good way to make hurricanes dissapear
is to drink a cocktail called the Hurricane.

On today's Feast of Fools Martinicast, Noah, Patrick and Scott from the "Patrick and Noah Show" come over to chew the fat with Fausto and Marc, and drink a drink called the Beaded Lady, in order to hope to chase the hurricane away from New Orleans.

Click on the extended entry for the recipie for the Beaded Lady.

The Bead Lady

1 part Brandy or Whiskey
2 parts Red Table Wine
2 parts Orange Juice
2 parts Cranberry Juice
1 teaspoon Pomegranate Syrup
Squeeze of Lime

In an iced filled shaker place ingredients. Shake until chilled. Strain into martini glasses. This drink is also good served on the rocks. Garnish with a long skewer of differntly colored Grapes, Blueberries, etc. to resemble Mardi Gras Beads.

This drink is a version of my friend Robin's recipe for a Hurricane. Robin lived in New Orleans for some time and worked the French Quarter in various types of employ. Most people make Hurricanes with Rum, but Robin's version was a Creole (a mix the of Spanish and French culture in New Orleans) inspired type of Sangria with whiskey or brandy and red wine as the base liquors.

Grenadine is suppossed to be a pomegranite syrup but the main brands available today don't even contain pomegranite. They are mostly citric acid and high fructose corn syrup. You can make your own pomegranate syrup by reducing pomegrante juice with sugar. The taste of pomegranate syrup versus grenadine is worth the little extra effort.

I call this drink "The Bead Lady" to both honor and mock my friend Robin. In New Orleans there is a famous street person called "The Bead Lady." She is an old crone that hangs around the French Quarter and sells the famous Mardi Gras beads to tourists. One day after work Robin was walking home and "The Bead Lady" asked Robin if she would like to buy some beads. Robin told her "no" and then proceeded home. When she got home, she recounted her encounter with "The Bead Lady" to her friends. Her friends spooked her by telling her that "The Bead Lady" is a witch and she will put a curse on her. Robin, being the giving, caring and slightly paranoid sort of person she is immediately got on her bike to find "The Bead Lady" to buy her beads. She found "The Bead Lady" and told her she would like to buy some beads. "The Bead Lady" looked at her and said "I will never sell you beads and if anyone wants to kill you I will gladly help them!" Robin, shaken from the experience went home and cried. To this day you cannot mention "The Bead Lady" without making Robin freak out. Cheers!

Oh so cute! I'm going to have to do them on podcast soup cause I'm biased that way.

Did anybody else catch the Groundhog Day first five minutes of the show?

Stir that Beaded Lady with a nice long cock & you have a Bearded Beaded Lady.... a la Bistro!

I'll take the little one. (Scott?) You can keep the other two.

Oh I like that Jimmy! Scott, Patrick and Noah were truly sweethearts. If every gay man in Lakeview was like them I'd never leave steamworks!

I didn't want them to leave my home, so I got them to leave a little bit of themselves before they took off.

wink wink.

You mean you finally convinced one of your guests to give you their little toe? Congrats Fausto!
