FOF #121 - Tea Time with Tim - 07.28.05

Performance artist Tim Miller talks about his life, Jesse Helms, his dog Freida, his work, his hubby Alistair, three-ways, and more with Fausto and Marc on todays show.
In the early 1980's Tim Miller was one of the first gay men living in New York City to create solo biographic work and label it "Performance Art." He came under the national spotlight a decade later when anti-gay groups, religious fundamentalists and politicians successfully attacked the National Endowment for the Arts for funding "morally questionable" work.
Tim Miller is one of the "N.E.A. Four" - Karen Finley, Tim Miller, John Fleck, and Holly Hughes, all performance artists whose proposed grants from the United States government's National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) were vetoed by John Frohnmayer in June 1990. Grants were overtly vetoed on the basis of subject matter after the artists had successfully passed through a peer review process. The artists won their case in court in 1993 and were awarded amounts equal to the grant money in question. In response, the NEA, under pressure from Congress, stopped funding individual artists.
For over 20 years Miller has written several books, Shirts and Skin and Body Blows.
He currently tours the United States and abroad performing his new solo work, "US" about he and his partner Alistair McCartney's struggle to stay together in the United States, and about his love for musical theater.

Hi, I just started listening to your shows and I absolutely love them!
Nice interview with Tim Miller. I met Tim also in Austin Texas back in 2002. It was really great how he met and talked with everyone after his show. Listening to his stuff helped me come out as a gay man, as I'm sure people who listen to this show become more accepting and tolerant of gays.

How damn wonderful was that? Very informative and surprising. Honestly I don't know much about the roots of gay culture and those who trail blazed gay society. Identifying as lesbian really makes you think. Most gays do have very non-titillating lives and spend time with friends and loved ones the same as the straight schmos. This is two FOF "in-depth" shows I've loved the shit out of. Thank you Fausto for sharing and keeping us sistas ejamakated.

I forgot to comment about this the other day with the whole not being at a computer while I listen to the show thing, but I have to say that I love you even more Fausto. In episode 120 you're talking about chicago's crazy mayor and saying that he 'roins' things rather than ru-ins. I do the same thing and all of my friends make fun of me. Thank you Fausto and Mark for making a podcast where people can listen and feel accepted. I no longer have to feel bad for my pronunciation of ruin.

Todd, tell your friends to go fuck themselves. As a native born and bred Puerto Rican, I've always struggled to "correctly" pronounce not just one, but TWO languages.
You dont need friends when you have podcasts to listen to! ;)
Yeah, if you notice, there is a bit of Texas twang and Puerto Rican slang all mixed into my nasal Gen X Paul Lynde voice. hee hee.

Great show! I think that we all need to realise that the supreme court nominee is NOT hot... AT ALL... actually he makes me throw up a little in my mouth. Percunt you should not reinforce this retarded and mistaken rumor... cause it is "not hot"

True Puffy- But the Bush dynasty works feverishly to try to "sexualize" their man to try to make him appealing to non-assholes.
"He's sweet!" He's nice etc..
Beware of the devil with the blue dress on.
