FOF #94 - The Fellini of Freaks - 06.21.05

Podcast

Here's the show you've been waiting for! The FOF Pride Series (what are we proud of? we're proud of a lot of things...) continues with a in-depth conversation with the legendary filmmaker John Waters, about his most recent film "A Dirty Shame" now available on DVD.

Listen to the flaming blue one talk to the Fellini of freaks about Johnny Knoxville's sexuality, strange candy products, Republicans co-opting his work, and why Waters thinks that Larry Kramer is the Bill Cosby of the Gay Community.

Can you ask any more from a podcast?

NOTE: To celebrate John Waters interview, the file marks a whole new ID3 tag naming convention, in preparation for iTunes 4.9. We'd love to hear your feedback!

Thanks Mike! Now go out and buy the DVD.

I agree with John Waters, Larry Kramer and Bill Cosby. Gays and other minorities must keep on demanding more of themselves if we're all to live in a egalitarain society. Great interview!

I love what Larry Kramer has to say. He says what most people do not want to hear... the truth. I read this speech last fall and have recently bought the paperback version. The speech is powerful, over the top and redundant in places but the overall message is clear: a life a druging and fucking is not a life worth remembering.

Addendum (see previous comment) - We * are more than this this.

I like Mr. K's komments, and boy sometimes I feel them with all my heart... but I do think they might be lacking in compassion.

Every generation has the right to fuck up their lives, and it's our duty as a society and as older generations to clean up the mess. If young kids these days are making a mess of their lives, we are all to blame, not just the youth.

I like John Waters' take on how young people these days are more accepting of people's differences, or at least appear to be.

I'd like to think that films like Water's have had a profound impact on expanding people's minds with humor, freakyness and love.

Yes, it sounds corny, but that's how I feel. Seeing "Female Trouble" at the tender young age of 18 had a profound impact on my sensiblities and life as an artist. There wouldn't be a Feast of Fools (not like this one) if it wasnt for having such great people like Waters inspiring me.

What a GREAT interview. I especially liked the dingle berry conversation because I suffer from chronic dinggle berries. BTW, thanks for the get well e-card.

You're wellcum!

Never thought of Johnny Knoxville as hot before, but DAMN just look at that tongue!

"Seeing "Female Trouble" at the tender young age of 18 had a profound impact on my sensiblities and life as an artist."

Which part? The acid-throwing or the electric chair? :-)

Thanks for this interview. He's truly a gracious man. I've become a big fan of all his movies.

I think you're right that all young people have the right to make their own mistakes, but I balk at the notion that it's my responsibility to clean up after them. Especially when I'm so often the recipient of their contempt. Besides, I'm too busy fucking up my own life! :-)

Aaron, we all live in this world together, so when somebody messes up, we all "clean up the mess" whether we want to or not...

On a lighter note, THE Cherry Vanilla heard about the fact we played her song on the show. Look what she said:

Robert Coddington:
My friend Fausto used I KNOW HOW TO HOOK right before his interview with John Waters...he credits you after the interview...look for it about 20 minutes into the podcast..

Cherry Vanilla: OH, WHAT A DARLING! HOW SWEET. JOHN WATERS IS SO GREAT. I LOVE THE FACT THAT HE PLAYED IT AT THAT TIME. THANKS HONEY. PLEASE THANK HIM FOR ME. SENDING YOU LOVE.
- Kisses, Cherry V

Thanks Miss Cherry V! You're awesome yourself.

Yup, this show was a real keeper! John Waters has made some wonderful films; and he comes across really well in this interview, in my opinion. Respect to him, and to you, Fausto, for getting such great audio.

PS Leicester is pronounced "Less-ter", rather than "Lye-sess-ter"... not that it matters...

PPS if it doesn't matter, why did I bother typing that? Oh, who knows!

Or cares... damn, where are my meds? ;-)

Said by: Koan Bremner at June 22, 2005 02:02 PM

Koan, I have your meds here, but really. One Hydrocodone a day to take the "edge" off the pain from your sex-reassignment surgery a day is all you need.

Stop it! You're gonna get hooked, and then your military boyfriend wont want a junkie trannie girlfriend like you, and leave you for somebody richer, prettier and thinner.

Oh sorry, I was thinking about our up and coming interview with some drag legend...

Said by: Fausto at June 22, 2005 07:10 PM

Oh, now I *know* you're hallucinating; richer than me, sure, that's possible; but prettier and thinner? No way! Eye-scratching-out time... ;-)

Anyway, when *are* you going to finally put up the Holly Woodlawn interview? Stockings should be kept in suspense, not listeners.

Said by: Koan Bremner at June 22, 2005 10:19 PM

I'll be posting up a mini-taste at the end of one of the up and coming shows... maybe.

So are you thin and pretty? Can I see a photo? PLEASE??? Love those listener pics.

Said by: Fausto at June 23, 2005 10:52 AM

"Thin" - well, everyone keeps telling me I'm losing weight, but I just think it's moving up to my boobs and down to my hips; "pretty" - pretty ordinary, more like! :-) I've got some shots on Flickr, but they're a few months old now, and fairly bland, since I had them done when trying to get some shots for my passport which I hope will allow me to get past your immigration officers without "special scrutiny"; I'll get some new ones done for you, since you ask, pet lamb that you are. Hmmm... maybe in leather(*)... you'd like that, wouldn't you, you *naughty* boy...

(*) - bike leather, sorry if I led you on there!

Said by: Koan Bremner at June 23, 2005 02:09 PM

Show us your bad-ass hot self Ms. B! If the photo's really good we'll post it here.
