Today we celebrate our 100th show with a fabulous conversation with the film actress, cabaret signer, author and living legend Holly Woodlawn about her book "A Low Life in High Heels" that's being made into a film.

Holly Woodlawn was one of the first breakout Andy Warhol Superstars -people who were famous in New York in the late 70's for being their outrageous selves, and for being in his (actually Paul Morrisey's) films. They're the ones who started the saying "Famous for Fifteen Minutes," which mean that fame was short-lived and that celebrites had a tendency to burn bright and die young. What makes Holly Woodlawn even more extraordinary is that she has outlasted a lot of her peers because of luck, sheer will, and a generous optimism and love for humanity.

Listen as two generations of Puerto Rican drag queens (Fausto and Holly) match wits, widsom and warmth in this truly fab interview. (Part 1 of 2)

Check out these fab pics of Holly, courtesy of the Holly Woodlawn Archives.

Happy First Century!

Congratulations on your 100th show! And… you guys are searchable under the new iTunes 4.9. Listening just got a LOT easier. Keep up the good work!

Said by: Jason at June 28, 2005 09:39 AM

Thanks guys! What a coincidence that iTunes and we should have such big landmarks on the same day!

Does anyone know how to contact Apple about adding/modifying the listing on the iTunes podcast portal?

Happy 100th!

Great interview guys - what a SWEETHEART! The next time she comes to the city I'll make sure she gets more than a damn T-Shirt. Cheap bastards!

"Charming" is definately the right word.

Thanks Aaron... stay tuned for tomorrow's part 2.

hey are you using iTunes by the way? Just curious.

Said by: Fausto at June 28, 2005 01:53 PM

Why yes I am. Ver. 4.9 as announced on Ms. Wisdom's page! I don't have an opinion on it just yet. Ipodder has been working just fine for me all along - and I kinda like that happy looking lemon. Apple getting involved (officially) gives me the creeps.

Congrats on the 100th Fausto!

Great show for the centennial to have somebody that's been around so long.

Yeah, the way that there are 8 "indie" podcasts on there, and there are NO gay and lesbian shows at all. And queer eye doesnt count.

I'm also kind of pissed at apple not letting the podcasters try to add iTunes RSS tags so their shows would work ok on day 1.

We built this city, and apple has gotten off on a bad BAD foot with the podcasters. Everyone is furious! RAGING!

Which of course, gives us content for our podcasts.

Fausto, you haven't failed to amaze me yet! Holly can be a challenge, especially when the interviewer isn't familar with her life....thankfully you knew exactly how to spar with her and get an incredible interview....Bravo!!!!

Happy Hundred! Great subject for your hudredth show too. Can't wait to hear part two.

Great show guys!! Can't wait for the next 100. iTunes is strange and very unfamiliar. I dowloaded your subscription, but can't tell if it will automatically feed as in the case of iPodderX and others. And will show notes come through? Although it has a very coporate feeling and ran by folks that seem to be unfamiliar with format, it will only make your wonderful show more accessible to the masses. I feel sorry for all those people out there missing out on this- the interview with Holly was priceless.
Keep up the great work

PS- Lascivious Biddies and Mommycast are their highlighted "indie podcasts" are you kidding me?

Said by: Mark F at June 28, 2005 10:40 PM

I definitvely don't want my mommycast. Queer Eye's filler-cast makes me want to take my iPod and flush it down the toilet! Dawn and Drew are just there to make it look like the 'indie' casts are inclusive, but it looks like they should re-name it all a POD-caste. Because it's all about who has money, and who doesnt.

Who has power in this society and who struggles to keep their visibility and voice intact. I don't want to sound like a bitter queen, because I'm glad apple put podcaste-ing portal, even if "Five Minutes with a Lame Character Actor" is a featured fat pod-cat.

Said by: Fausto at June 28, 2005 11:58 PM

If all drag queens were like Holly, the gay world would be a wonderful place! But I wouldnt trust her with my credit cards! ha ha....

Thank you everyone for your well wishes on our 100th show. We want to thank all the people that have made this show possible; Victoria Lamarr, Taylor E. Ross, Madge Weinstein, Adam Curry, Dave Weiner, Christina Miraglia, Emily, Robert Coddington, Mike Hipp, Adam Baker, Jason Schupp and all of our special guests, friends and listeners. Without you we are nothing. We look forward to doing many many more shows.

Said by: Marc and Fausto at June 29, 2005 02:54 AM

here's my deal w/ iTunes. Isn't it true that if everybody is plugged into iTunes to automatically d/l the queercasts then that's less and less traffic coming to your websites?

I don't see the point anyway.. I mean really, how hard is it to d/l manually? I do it for between 5 and 8 shows every morning and my hand hasn't fallen off yet!

Said by: mike at June 29, 2005 08:01 AM

Well I think the point is giving people choice, and making it as easy for them to listen to the show sync with their (in this case) iPod.

That's why apple better give better instructions on how to make iTunes work with out RSS feeds. (Like examples on how to modify your RSS page in MT would be fab.)

Also, they MUST have a gay & lesbian channel...

Said by: Fausto at June 29, 2005 11:29 AM

And don't forget to thank all our guests! John Waters, Holly Woodlawn, Randy Jones, Lea Delaria, Jill Sobule, Cathy Richardson, Baby Teeth, El Vez, Patty Elvis, Scott Free, Sukie Delacroix, Linda Montano, Kerthy Fix, David Cerda, Gregg Shapiro, Barb K, Barbie Doll, Dan Crowley, DJ Larissa, Chi Chi Larue, Jason Smith, Lisa Neff, Zane Edwards, David Andora, Sal-E, Gigi Deluxe, Gary Barlow, Jim Pickett, Amanda Steinstein, Link Pinks, Bill Haddad, Jessica Halem, Jim McElaney, Robbert Coddington, Jason Schupp, Matt from Tampa Boys Live, David Weissman, Leslie Hall, Puffy Blubber Cunt, Wanda Wisdom, Madge Weinstein, Maris Bluestein, Ragan Fox, Talia Fernos, Patricia Fernos, Gonzalo Fernos, Apple Store Employees, Rob, Angie, Indoor Boys, Star Wars fans, IML Fisting queens, Lesbians who work in fast food franchises, LCCP, CFP, AFC, AZT, LSD, PHP, HIV, SEX, YOU, ME, WOW!

Can you believe it? Am I forgetting anyone?
