John Sex was the most exciting entertainer in Downtown New York until he lost his life to AIDS in early 1989. Admired by Andy Warhol, best friends with Keith Haring, loved by Liberace, John Sex blended dance, rock and Broadway into a Las Vegas spectacle that was oh-so sassy-fying. Fortunately for us today, he was also friends with Nelson Sullivan who videotaped many of his fabulous shows.

Richard Metzger, who lived with Nelson Sullivan for a while in the 80's, directed this super music video for John and his co-stars The Bodacious Ta-Ta's. It's a genuine masterpiece and a wonderful tribute to one our most favorite entertainers and all-the-way nice guys, John Sex!

John was sooo hot- and I don't normally go for that type of guy. I remember when John Sex went performed at Berlin (or as the Chicago suburbanites would say- the Berlinzes)- what a show....

I'm sure Kenny Scharf and Juan Dubose would have a thing or two to say about that "Keith Haring's best friend" thing.

Mizez, who's saying that?

No dirt, really, just research I did on Haring's scene years ago in uni. Scharf was very close to Haring from his early NY days, and Dubose was the closest thing to an LTR that Haring had.

Said by: Mizez Slocombe at June 22, 2005 01:32 PM

Well, don't forget that Madonna and Haring were rommmates, though I'm sure people today can't imagine that....Back in the early 80's the scenesters had to stick together to make it. The Lower East Side wasn't the safest place on earth.

John Sex was one of the FEW individuals in the East Village scene that everyone loved....he was a one-of-a-kind.
Go ask Scharf...he'll give you th 411.

He seems like a likeable guy. Sexually ambigous? Hell no. He is/was gayer than a gay day at disney.

Is there anywhere or anyone who has some of those songs on cd or mp3? There's been an empty place in me for years without being able to listen to Rock Your Body or Hustle With My Muscle..! TexLonghorn@hotmail.com
